Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited on the 2nd week of July 2022, right after the reopening from the pandemic. We did not go snorkeling or diving, as we have a young one not yet comfortable in the water; however, even if you walk along the shore (around low tide), you can view some of the items. There are bits sticking up, like landing mat pieces and other machinery. If you like history, then it's still worth a look. The cost was 500VU.

We snorkeled this historic spot in Jan/24 and ABSOLUTLEY LOVED IT!!! If you're into WW2 history or are just a keen snorkeler, this one is a must. On the relics side, we could make out old artillery canon barrels, bulldozer tracks, a forklift, old wheel axel's and tires, the hull of an old boat and plenty of old steel framing structures.
But it's the amount of coral that now grows here and fish life of all sizes that inhabits it that was the most impressive. You have to get a bit away from the shore for the best visibility, we were in about 10 meters of water and it was truly breathtaking.
A must for any keen snorkeler.

A local driver took us to Million Dollar point and we snorkelled straight off the beach. The fish and coral are well established and although there is no clear separate wreck some of the equipment can still be recognised. Only a short distance from where the cruise ship docked and definitely worth it.

Loved snorkelling here. We simply walked into the sea (just to the left of the concrete pier) and from about 20m in you start seeing the scrapped equipment and the sealife. Water a little choppy though we were there by 9am. Just a different snorkelling experience that my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed with lots to see and lots of fish. We paid 500VT each. Didn't walk up the beach to see any of the facilities or cafe etc. as had a hire car and were on our way around the island.

This is an amazing dive sight that can either be accessed by scuba or snorkel. You will be blown away by the magnitude of the equipment rusting away both on the bottom and around the surrounding beaches. Aircraft engines lying on the beach, landing barges with equipment still inside, forklift trucks still in tact in 10-15 feet of water. Water visibility is clear to the bottom. There is a very slight tidal surge (we swam in reef shoes not fins). Booties or reef shoes are advised in the area as there are literally millions of pieces of broken Coca Cola bottles, beer bottles, ceramic dishes and other rusting objects on the beach or on the walk out to the site. Catch the 'bus' from Luganville ...all the drivers know the site and it is only ten minutes from the centre of town...you won't need a guide if just snorkelling. If you need scuba euipment there are two PADI companies in the local town and while you are there book a dive on the 'COOLIDGE' ...it is only 200 metres down the coast...the largest accessible "whole ship" site in the world.

If you are coming from a cruise DO NOT BOOK AN EXCURSION. Find some friends and pitch in for a taxi. For two people we paid $30 to stay for two hours. Luckily we had extra money because people charged at the entrance $5/person. It was a beautiful place to snorkel. Nice white sand and coral, blue ocean. We spent time playing with the local children who told us a bit about their lives, very beautiful people. Main tip is to BE SMART about your money, and don't forget to give a little extra tip...they could use it more than we can.

I visited Million Dollar point for a snorkel with my family. The beach itself is not too bad but the underwater junkyard is simply amazing - fish are pretty good too. It's fun trying to work out what things were - some like the forklift are unmistakable others are a bit more mysterious. An unexpected bonus was a fossick around the beaches of the point - you can find lots of old bottle and plate pieces from the 40s and 50s washed up on the rocky section of the beach. A fascinating mix of history and natural beauty.

We went to Million Dollar Bay with our tour guide Charley. It was a lovely beach, and the sanctitude of the beach was wonderful. We snorkelled around the bay and it was okay - some fish and some treasures.
We were most impressed with the banyang tree - big and bold and beautiful.

Visited The famous million day bay today for a swim and snorkel. A lady came to the window asking for us to pay $500 Vatu each before even getting out of the taxi. Thinking this is the bay to be - was an absolute joke. It was so rough and dirty no visibility for snorkelling at all, just rubbish everywhere washed up on the beach. I stood on a broken beer bottle - pretty much ended the 10 minute visit at this bay. Asked where the shower was to wash off all the disgusting Debris that we swam in - was sent right to the back of whoop whoop to wash off under a hose. Was an absolute waste of money - the people working wont even inform you if its good to swim that day. We obviously picked the wrong day? There are supposed to be relics from the war on the beach which we were not informed of... No information was given about any of the history and the name behind it, i went back to my room and googled the whole ordeal - It’s a money grub. Pretty sure there are a lot of other beautiful bays to visit unless you’re into snorkelling and scuba diving around a heap of rubbish...

This was going to be the peak of our trip given all the wonderful reviews. Unfortunately for us, the weather in June made it a bit of a let down. We had a WWII tour arranged through the espiritu hotel (paradise tours) which was fascinating- our guide showed us all the left-behind buildings and relics of the time. We got to see an old hospital disguised in the forest, a plane crash off the beaten track and the tour ended in million dollar point. The beach is awash with car parts thay have rusted over time. A couple from our group tried snorkelling out to the buoy but said it was so choppy and windy that they could barely see their hands under water. When they went out deeper they could make out that something big was below them, and using a go pro they could feel something within a metre below them, but they still couldn't see anything. If you come here for the day- make sure it's your least windy day, sun doesn't seem to make much difference. The most terrible of winds are south-easterly. It's unfortunate we didn't have decent weather our entire trip.

Can you hire dive equipment nearby
Written 2 September 2018
Hi Travelmummi,
You would need to arrange that prior to going to Million Dollar Point. Sorry am not a diver so can’t offer you a recommendation of which dive shop. Can tell you we met some Brazillians who said diving here and also anthe sunken aeroplane was some of the best diving they had done in the world. They kept arranging follow up dives!
