    Beautiful bay
Lovely picturesque bay with a nice beach. Pleasant cafe with limited seating to enjoy the view. I’m sure it’s busy in the summer but very reminiscent of some of the Cornish bays and well worth a visit!

    Lovely miniature Staithes
Runswick Bay is a gorgeous little bay and beach. Like a miniature Staithes. Nice little cafe and public toilets also. One note is that although parking is close to the front, the walk down is quite steep so perhaps bear in mind if you have restricted mobility.

    Gem of a little beach.
Lovely little dog friendly beach. Was very clean and the water was calm and clean too. Lots of dog walkers , friendly and playful stroll in the sunshine. Lovely cafe as you join the beach. Parking was easy enough and free until March 1st 2024 with a gentle downhill stroll to the beach.

    Fossil hunting fun!
We took the children here as we’d heard it was good for fossil hunting. We made sure we went as the tide was going out and had a great time. We came away with a handful of fossil finds. Great fun!!

    Beautiful bay with glorious sand
Walked along the Cleveland Way from Staithes - took about an hour and a half. Very beautiful walk to this fabulous bay. The Tides coffee shop is a great place for a break. Try the Runswick Rascal - a delicious sort of bun/cookie.

    Peaceful setting lovely walk
Lucky enough to park in bottom car park. Lovely long, clean beach ideal for dog walkers. Nice cafe for a coffee afterwards. Would find it quite difficult to walk up the hill due to our age but mid week was not that busy. Highly recommend.

    Stunning Bay
Absolutely stunning bay even in the rain! We've visited Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay but this beat those by far. We got the bus and walked down from the main road. The view was amazing from the top. Nice sandy beach and the sea looked shallow for a long way. I bet its lovely for children on a good day. There's a nice cafe overlooking the bay and it sells buckets and spades etc. Would definitely go again in better weather.

    Worth a visit.
The coastline north of Whitby is an interesting drive through a series of old villages one of which is Runswick Bay. When we visited, the view over the bay was somewhat restricted due to one of the infamous sea frets. Nevertheless, it’s worth having a wander and admiring some of the cottages including an old coast guard building. Like many places, many of the cottages are now holiday lets. There are two car parks both pay and display and public toilets. There’s plenty of walking and if fossil hunting is an interest then Runswick Bqy is a good place to find them in the cliffs. There’s a good tea shop! Worth visiting

    Enjoyable afternoon
Travelled from Whitby on the schedule bus, taking advantage of the current £2 fare scheme. Picturesque landscape. Lovely clean dog friendly beach. We made some fossil discoveries. Finished off with a cuppa at the cafe at the edge of the beach. The walk up/down the the hill to the bay is not for the unfit/feint hearted.

    Lovely bay.
Very pretty bay, just lovely to either sit and relax on the benches looking out to sea and over the bay. One cafe and toilets by the beach. It's downfall is the ridiculous price of parking and unfortunately an appalling stench of seweridge that desperately needs taking care of!

The car park costs were daylight robbery and access to the beach was usually limited to those without a disability. I have read that others have witnessed dog poo in generous quantities, to such an extent they restricted their children from playing. I have been walking on this beach for many years, both morning and evening and have yet to see any dog poo lying on the beach. Any dog I encountered that looked dodgy, was usually on a lead and the others running around were friendly. A great beach overall.

Beautiful beach but spoilt by allowing dogs on the beach. We came September 20, would not come between Mid June and after early September.
But loved the views and also the coast of North Yorkshire.
But we found another wild beach that had lovely sand at Loftus it’s called Hummersea, no facilities cliffs and only a small car park unless anyone knows of another. It’s between Staithes and Saltburn

Stayed in one of the lovely but quirky rental cottages at runswick bay. We stayed in pear tree Cartage in a small 1 bedroom but absolutely quaint and quirky property overlooking the spectacular bay from the outside patio set.
We loved the old worldly charm the interior provided. The beech is absolutely fantastic for families to sunbath and swim or even boarding. A very handy beach cafe serving beverages small snacks and ice cream at reasonable prices and The Royal Hotel with great food and beers. When we stayed the weather was on best behaviour and had 4 lovely days of sunshine which real did make ours stay so relaxing

Very picturesque setting with holiday cottages so close to the easily accessible beach with a lifeguard station. The high tide gave us spectacular sightings of the dolphins. A beautiful dog friendly beach with the car park only 2 min walk.

The only negative experience was the sea front cafe, the cream tea scone looked shop bought, came already cut with a meagre amount of jam already spread and a squiff of spray cream. It looked soulless and at £3.20 on its own way too expensive.

The cream tea we had at the wonderful tea Garden at Goathland was sublime.
Fresh home made scone you could cut and spread with an abundance of fruity jam and an abundance of clotted cream yourself, a real treat and £5 pp for the lot great value.

We spent a nice warm day here in July with our two kids aged 6 and 9. We got lucky and took the last spot in the Bank Bottom car park - which is v convenient a short but steep walk down to the beach (say 200m). The alternative is to park up the hill which then becomes a much steeper and longer walk- tricky if you have several bags like we always seem to. The bay itself is lovely, protected from the wind and currents my kids enjoyed running in and out of the sea. The facilities are quite basic, there is a cafe that does sandwiches and coffee/ ice cream but know hot food, which is the only real negative. There are public toilets above the cafe.

I parked for 2 hrs at the car park at the top on a Sunday. Was lucky with the weather. Attractive hillside village leading down to an attractive bay. I took my time wandering the small mainly car less alleys and walked from one end of the beach to the other under soft cliffs. Had time for a cuppa and icecream. Some small sailing boats towed out for a sailing the bay. A weekend with quite a few people but not crowded. Need to be able to manage a steepish walk back up as only residents allowed to drive into the village.

Runswick Bay is well worth a visit. A lovely calm sea with visiting seals that
look like their having fun. The sea view and peripheral views of the red rooftop houses on the cliff side is picture postcard. This is a sandy beach front which is a beautiful place to be on a sunny day!

Came last summer for a visit and hopefully for lunch. Tried the only cafe there.
Nice sea views, you can sit outside.
Very expensive, order at the counter. Loads of flies behind the counter which was a bit off putting.
Two prawn sandwiches which I think were £6 to £6.50 each came with two crisps a bit of cucumber and a quarter of rotten tomato. Two cups of coffee and one cream scone which came to approx £21.00. A lot of money for a snack bar. A bit of a rip off.
I’ll take a picnic next time. There is a pub though. Might be better.

This is a strange place, lovely cafe, reasonably priced car park.
Whilst sat outside the cafe, we noticed the number of dogs on the part of the beach we could see. We walked down the right hand slope, which eventually got us to the beach down a horrid slope full of stones.
When walking down the beach, we noticed the volume of seaweed (which can be easily removed with a tractor, other beaches do this).
But why do beaches allow open access for dog owners, some of who clearly do not tidy up after their dogs. It should be split, dogs and no dogs, not everyone is a dog lover or owner. There were kids playing on the beach, i wouldnt have let my kids play there when they were small.
We will not be visiting again.

Having been brought up in Yorkshire but lived the last 25 years in London I was really keen to go to runswick bay. I had never been before. I will definitely be going back.
As with all the coastal villages it's not for the feint hearted in terms of a very steep drive down to the car park which is situated 2/3 of the way down the hill. The remainder is a steep walk to the beautiful beach. It was quiet, expansive, clean. Dogs were allowed. For the kids and big kids there was plenty of rockpooling and of course fossil hunting! It really wasn't hard to find fossils although we did have to walk a good 10 minutes along the beach to get to a good spot.
The views are beautiful.
The cafe was closed on the Wednesday so don't rely on it being open.
