Juan Curi was a thrilling waterfall to rappel down. It's about 75 meters and you rappel down the side for the most part (although I was soaked within a few seconds). The rocks are very slippery, but the rappel is not particularly difficult for somebody with a modicum of experience. The waterfall itself is quite pretty and there is a natural rock pool to swim in at its foot. The trail to the pool is moderately difficult. The trail to the top of the fall is very steep near the top.

This attraction is a good distance from San Gil and well worth the effort. Some guide books suggest cycling. It is a long way, hot, and the road is very potholed. To go by bike would be a long day trip and very tiring, a big mistake to try this unless you are very keen cyclist, have your own bike, and the trip is the raison d'etre of the cycle ride not the attraction.
We were glad of our rental car.
The falls are lovely. Be sure to take or wear footwear that you can get wet and take a copy of your passport. Just follow the road towards Charala and there is a prominent sign on your right. The falls reputedly get very busy but when we visited on a Monday in January the place was nearly deserted and all the better for that. Proceeding through the finca estate a person will appear and collect the entrance fee and point you in the direction of a path up the mountain. A pleasant 20 minute walk takes you to the foot of the falls. The shade and the spray keep you cool and there is ample opportunity to swim in the pool at the base of the falls.
DANGER! The pool is effectively bottomless and it is easy to jump in but difficult to climb out. The rocks are sharp in places and very slippy. Children absolutely must be watched and anybody entering into the pool really should be able to properly swim. I'm a gung-ho sort of person but I could easily envisage anybody getting into difficulties here so take care and have a great time.When we were there there were no attraction staff present whatsoever and nobody to give assistance in any emergency.
If you wish to rapell/abseil then you need to arrange this BEFORE you set off to the park. There was absolutely nobody there to arrange this on our visit so speak to Tourist Information in San Gil/ Barichara a day or two before you go to set this up if that is what you wish to do.

The waterfall and surrounding area is very pretty, but if a large group arrives it can be very crowded. We visited mid-day on bike tour and a bus came as we were leaving. I would recommend early to mid-moring to avoid crowds.

We came from San Gil with the intention of seeing and swimming at the base of the falls. I’d no interest in rappelling down the waterfall but was very keen for a swim. Very easy to take the bus from the Terminalito in San Gil, and it costs 5k to go to the cascadas. The bus driver asks the foreigners if they are going there and will drop off. At the drop off point there are two options: the more organised finca at the right, which is also cheaper; or the one we took, the left option, which is more rustic but (we believe) a more interesting walk, despite my initial concerns that it was pretty rough and ready. For your entry fee you are accompanied by a guide with a radio and first aid kit. The path is pretty rough at times and was very soggy when we went in late April - definitely best to wear trainers. You cross the river a couple of times and see lots of small falls and overflow along the way, and a lot of times hold on to a rope for safety. When we got to the base of the falls, there was so much water that no one was allowed to swim (too dangerous) and rappelling had been cancelled; but we were all really wet thanks to the volume of water. On the way back we saw a gorgeous snake, leaf cutter ants, beautiful (huge) butterflies, giant beetles, and lots of other little bugs, and then had a swim in a pool downstream which was like a natural jacuzzi thanks to the strength of the water flow. When we got back to the entrance there was a delicious snack waiting for us - it was so good that we ended up staying for lunch. Bus back to San Gil came almost immediately. It was a great few hours and highly recommended.

Get up early and walk to terminalito. First bus to Charalá at 6 30 will take you to the falls. Make sure you enter de falls "donde Efigenia" she will fix you a great "almuerzo". The falls are just beautiful. It is about one hour easy hike, but careful. Rocks are slippery. You will get your shoes wet.

We took the bus here- it does take a while but I thought it was worth it. Rather than stop at the main tourist entrance (where people meet to do the rappelling trip) we went one farm further down the road to access a "secret" trail to the waterfall. We paid the nice lady who runs the finca about 10k each to use the trail. It took about 20-30 minutes to walk to the falls through lush jungle full of interesting birds and bugs. We did not see another person on our hike. It was relatively flat (not too difficult) but wet and muddy, with some steep drop offs, so not for the faint of heart. The waterfall is beautiful, with a perfectly round pool at the bottom that is great for swimming. You can explore downstream a bit and hang out on the rocks. Bring snacks and water and make a day of it.

Such a lovely waterfall - definitely should not be missed while in San Gil. Proper footwear is necessary as there is a short/steep hike up to the waterfall. Have fun lounging in the pools or exploring beneath the waterfall. There is food and beverage options at the base of the waterfall where you arrive by bus.
We also went abseiling, which was a great adrenaline rush! It was perfectly safe and a great adventure. We were happy to have spanish speaking friends with us though, as the safety instructions were not avaliable in english while we were there. I wouldn't have felt comfortable doing the abseiling without fully understanding the safety briefing. Not for the faint hearted, but great fun for the thrill-seeker! (You don't have to go abseiling in order to enjoy the beauty of the waterfall, you can hike up and down if you choose to).

Many Colombian landscapes are gorgeous and not found anywhere else. If you visit this fantastic set of waterfalls be sure to stretch. You can practice torrentismo which is coming down from the biggest of the three falls. Please enjoy Colombia and go to Socorro Santander.

A must visit if you are in San Gil! Simply a 40 minute bus ride in the direction of Charala (pueblo)...this series of waterfalls is accessed by a well-maintained path (pay approx. 5000 COP to use)...beautiful! And...you can rappel down it as well!

I was here with my family in a Holiday: 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 11, 8 and 6). I believe it is a great place to visit, however I would advise for families with children to consider a 30 minute walk from the parking lot to the base of the waterfall. Also, the hike is a little bit challenging when bringing little kids, I saw people carrying small children but not enjoying the ride at all. Also, bring sport shoes instead of flip flops. When you arrive to the cascade, the water is very cold and the cascade is very noisy. I would not recommend to families with your children (< 5 year old).

Para llegar a la cascada es una caminata que en ocaciones es bastante empinada , personalmente no creo que sea facil para los mas pequeños, pero puedes llevarlos al parque gallineral que esta cerca y es un destino ecoligico apto para senderismo con loa niños.

Soy una persona con discapacidad física, no uso silla de ruedas aunque tengo movilidad reducida( camino despacio y con bastón canadiense) será posible mi acceso?
