Dead plant and no response
Mar 2021
I bought a plant from them a month ago a Japanese anemone. It was clearly dead and I took a picture and emailed them and explained the situation and also contacted them on line through their website. I have also left messages by telephone. I haven’t heard a thing back and want my money back. I’m an experienced gardener and have been left feeling let down and cheated. I’ll keep trying but just to let others know.

A complete waste of a journey
Jan 2021
I fully concur with one of the other reviews. I was told they had a brilliant selection of plants. Not so. When I arrived the nursery was being revamped, I couldn't see most of the plants - they said for health and safety reasons. Since they were all on the floor or benches and this is how they are normally displayed I could not see what the problem was. I travelled a long way - a wasted journey. No sign posts for the parking, hardly any one around.

A plant lovers paradise.
Mar 2020
This is a place for real gardeners. Don't come if you want to buy fake flower, chintzy teacups or have a cup of tea and a slice of cake. This place is a working, breathing nursery. They are really good at producing excellent plants. If you look at the root stock you will know. If you look at how the place is arranged you will know. It is a bit out of the way but so worth finding.

The best nursery I have been to!
May 2019 • Couples
After seeing Hardy's at Chelsea this year, my partner and I decided we had to take a trip to see Rosy and Rob 'in situ'. We were not disappointed! Amazing nursery in the middle of no where with plants easily laid out, which made it a joy to walk around and find what we wanted. A real find!

Our Favourite Nursery !
May 2019 • Couples
I hadn't expected to see Hardy's treated as a 'destination' or 'experience' on TripAdvisor but when I came across these reviews by accident I was amazed that anyone could regard it as 'terrible' & a 'waste of a journey' !

Hardy's is not a garden centre - it doesn't have a coffee shop or seek to make money by selling 'tat' ! It is a million times better than that - a nursery concentrating on 'hardy perennials' that are mainly grown on site. If it is raining you are going to get wet - the sales area, as indeed much of the nursery, is exposed to the elements but the plant choice & quality is excellent & the pricing competitive. The staff know their subject & will always advise as to the suitability of a plant & recommend alternatives where appropriate. They are also great to spend time with - we have enjoyed cake, ice cream & the opportunity to see the Flying Scotsman, with the team ! It is also rewarding to meet other clients who share our passion, or, some may say, addiction

We have just returned from one of our regular visits - we live in the Cotswolds & are just 'ordinary but enthusiastic' amateurs. If you enjoy plants you cannot fail to appreciate a visit to Hardy's - if you are looking for a slightly gardening related retail experience then in all honesty you should be looking elsewhere.

A Proper Nursery
Apr 2019 • Friends
I have always visited/bought from Hardy's at various gardening shows, but to visit the actual nursery was a great experience. Plants set out superbly, from colours to sun to shady planting. The plants were all reasonably priced and staff were on hand to answer any questions. Well worth a visit for serious gardening.

A Masterclass in Pruning from David Hurrion
Oct 2018 • Solo
Excellent workshop organised by Rosie Hardy. I've been gardening for 50 years and I learned more in 60 mins from David Hurrion than I could have expected. David has the ability to make things simple to understand and impart knowledge to his audience. I look forward to putting this knowledge into practice in my garden.

This is what garden centres should be like.
May 2018 • Couples
This is a garden centre for people who are serious about gardening. It's not big nor fancy and they won't have Santa's grotto from October onwards. It's all about plants.
The service is professional and knowledgeable. The prices are reasonable.
Worth a visit and great pub at the end of the road!

Independent nursery and plant growers
Jul 2018 • Family
We went with a horticultural society for a conducted tour of the nursery by one of the owners. Having been round it is easy to see how they have won gold medals at various national shows. The plant sale area had several plants at a reasonable price which will not be found in the chain garden centres. Well worth a visit for a pre-booked tour or to find those less common plants.

Hi Ken Thank you so much for your positive review as we are so pleased that you enjoyed your special behind the scenes tour of the Nursery We like to keep our stock to our favourites which our customers do love whether they are new or older varieties but not found in your general Garden Centre

Waste of a long journey
Apr 2018 • Couples
My husband and I drove from Surrey today (took 1 hour and 30 minutes) to get to the Nursery and there were two other cars in the car park. I thought it must be closed but it wasn’t. I walked in and there was an unmanned cabin and a sign saying pick up a plant list. There was no plant list and nobody to ask. To be honest there was no need for a list as it took me all of 10 minutes to walk round. I have never been so disappointed. No plants that I can’t find in my local garden centre and over priced as most 1 litre plants started at £6.50. My local garden centre do 3x1 litre healthy plants for £9 and they have an enormous selection a tea room and toilets. You can spend hours browsing there. We brought our dog as it said 4 legged friends welcome but there wasn’t even a water bowl. Lots of plants were roped off and inaccessible. I spoke to the only other person there and she said the same as me that it was a wasted journey. Looks like it is more geared up to mail order. Luckily we went off to visit Winchester which was lovely.

We are so sorry that you feel that you had a wasted journey. We are a small independent Nursery and its still very early in our season as our plants are all grown outside unlike a Garden Centre where you would undoubtably find more colour at this time of year. Our Staff at times are busy elsewhere on the Nursery but there is a bell to ring to summon assistance, The stock area is roped off but staff are always happy to go and collect plants for customers from this area if asked. We hope that you will allow this response and not rejecting as per earlier one
