Nice area, good location, new hotels, we made a 3day trip from Beijing, it is not so far away. We were lucky because we could see a lot of handicapped skiing people, properly training for the winter games

I have been here on March 9, 2019. First of all, I want to clarify that if you normally go skiing in European countries (on the Italian, Swiss, Austrian, French alps) or in America, here the general atmosphere is totally different. Forget the beautiful Europeans mountains, peaks, glaciers and so on. Everything here (except the mountain) is basically man-made, especially the snow and the slopes which seem to be planned by using some kind of software to make them perfectly flat even when they are very steep (in Europe we have bumps everywhere, here you can not see one unless made it intentionally). Anyway, considering that you are in China, it's a very nice experience to ski here in Thaiwoo resort. There is a gongola-lift which is split in 2 sections (you need to get off at the end of the first section and walk in again for the second section), and 3 chairlifts (2 six-seats chairlifts and 1 four-seats chairlifts). Currently 2 more chairlifts are planned to be built this summer (see the red dotted lines showed in my attached picture), one of them start from the village and arrive directly at the base of the four-seats chairlift (you will no more need to ski down to arrive there as you do now by using the six-seats chairlift starting from the village), while the second section (more interesting!) should take you up to the top of the mountain at 2122 meters a.s.l. just over the arrival station of the four-seats chairlift, this should allow to enjoy a "black" slope down to the village. Going back to the today's situation, the 4-seats chairlift is “surrounded” by very easy slopes, ideal for beginners and for organizing easy-level ski racings among friends or small groups. The best part for hardcore skiers to have fun is the six-seats chairlift which prompts you up to the top of the mountain (2160 meters a.s.l.), allowing you to get down by selecting one of the several black slopes. I think the most difficult slope is the "lambada" slope, unfortunately I could not test it as it was closed that day and the local ski teachers which were doing some training there did not let me get down from this slope. There is another black slope called "modern dancing" which I like very much, be careful if you are beginners as it's quite steep (although no bumps at all as I said before). I went there by joining a group so everything was well organized in advance and I can not tell you how the ski equipment rental service works, the food is OK, there is a brew house in the village just in front of the starting point and a good Italian food restaurant at the gondola's middle station. Starbucks is always there for emergencies. In conclusion, I was satisfied about my skiing day here in Thaiwoo, next time I want to try Wanlong ski resort as I heard that it's more technical than this one. Have fun!

A new and upcoming resort, one of the scheduled Beijing 2022 winter Olympics ski place. High speed train from BJ to Chongli is in the construction, ready by 2019. Chair lifts and cable cars functioning in full, slopes are well prepared with sufficient snow. Getting the ski equip and buying tickets were orderly, overall, they are doing a good job considering it is fairly new. The rented ski equip is of better quality compared to the other ski resorts. Deposit is overly high though, at 2000rmb per pax but they can waive it if you provide your ID. Accommodations are serviced by Thaiwoo hotel, Thaiwoo apartments (condotel) and Elements by Westin. We stayed at the condotel which was comfortable and just across a small path to the ski hall. Eating is not a problem as it has a few restaurants and Starbucks within close proximity, prices are reasonable. I will definitely return to ski!

Stayed a weekend at the Hyatt. They “frozen” a deposit of RMB 2,500 from my credit card when I checked in. When I checked out they told me that they had given the deposit back to me and they made me pay another RMB 1,495 for the weekend. One week later the two charges are still on my account. To sum up: I have paid RMB 2,500 AND RMB 1,495. I do not care if Hyatt did wrong or if their bank did wrong. Hyatt should make sure this is done properly. This is not the way to gain customer loyalty.

Thaiwoo is just ok, if you can’t fly somewhere worth your while to ski/snowboard. Problem number one: the lifts close at 4:30pm. Two: every run is Blue or MAYBE Red. Nothing challenging. Three: the Chinese have no regard for the whole “no smoking” thing... even in the gondolas they smoke. The only saving feature of this “resort” is the terrain park, which closed at 3:30. Don’t go here, overpriced and unimpressive.

When thinking of that the winter sports industry in China is fairly young, Thaiwoo resort has come a long way. Good variation of slopes and enough when spending 2 days on ski. Good restaurants, mostly spend our time in Brew House just next to the bottom station of the Gondola. They Brew there own beer and the service is good. Some live music in the weekends. I am looking forward to spend more weekends here especially when the travelling time will be cut down to 50 min by train and 1,5 hours by car in end of 2019.

Thaiwoo opened this winter and it is still under heavy construction. Currently, two cable cars and two chairlifts are currently available (plus beginners zone). The variety of slopes is good, even advanced skiers can find some nice slopes. The longest distance one could ski in one go is around 3km. In the next two years they will expand the slopes to the nearby hills. Accommodation here is very limited, as everything is under construction. Although high speed rail station will be here someday, car is currently only good option to access Thaiwoo from Chongli. Even if you take a taxi, there is quite a walk from the only open hotel in the area.

We were there in late February 2016. Perfect snow conditions, pistes groomed to perfection, blue sky and almost no other skiers. I haven't skied in such conditions (that lasted the whole day) for a long time. All available slopes were open and groomed! Devices are modern, new. Don't expect too many options to eat or drink, as almost everything is under constructions. When we were there, only alpine (Austrian) hut at the end of first cable cable ride was open - food there was good.

However, i do have some complaints.

Speed of cable cars and chairlifts is quite slow. Also, the upper chairlift (for advanced skiers) has very sparsely installed chairs - there is just too much distance between them. Ok, there are no crowds here, but even only a few people made a waiting line at the chairlift. I also do not understand why there are two cable cars to the top and not only one (at the middle you have to go out, walk 5 meters and enter into new one).

Pricewise its expensive to ski in China. Though, daily ski ticket is cheaper in Thaiwoo than in Wanlong. Expect to pay from 320 RMB upwards for a 4 hour ticket, much more for a daily ticket. Renting here is very expensive, though the equipment is quite new. I still suggest renting in Chongli - beware if you need larger ski boots - it was quite difficult to get size 29.5, as majority of rentals maxed out at 28.5!!

All in all... great experience, one of the best skiing i had in a long time. Some minor issues (like speed of the lifts), but this didn't ruin the overall experience. I expect that for the next winter they will enlarge the ski area, so this could be another reason to return!

Great ski runs and the facilities will be great. To get your ski lift passes and equipment is a total nightmare. Staff are not well trained and for a family of four took an hour and a half to get this done, and there was no one else there.

Brand new ski resort, just opened. Hotels are still under construction, one Westin, one Hyatt and another local brand. The speed train from Beijing to Thaiwoo will stop just in front of the slopes....great slopes, though only phase 1. There is an Alpine Lodge with Austrian Food and Austrian Chef, very authentic, cozy and great to have some Western Atmosphere in a future Winter Olympic Resort. We had two great days...though one day equipment rental and ski pass cost 1,050 per person over the Public Holidays..nevertheless, when booking online in advance, you can get a 15% discount. Recommend to take own ski equipment !

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at Thai Woo Element so much that we went back again the next weekend for another 2 nights. Lovely clean modern Hotel with a very comfy bed and great shower. Everything you need is right here with the ski fields right outside as well as a few restaurants and shops. The staff at the Element were very friendly and helpful even though some didn't have much english.
