surprising different day
Jun 2021
It's a wonderful experience that we were glad to take, It's great for families since it's not too exhausting. The guide is amazing, always thoughtful and funny, with great care for the youngest and at the same time explaining all the details and history of the cave.

visual treat and great guide
Dec 2019
i don't know a great deal about caves and what time and water can do to them,i know a bit more now but this was one visual treat of a guided tour that all the family can enjoy.throw in a guide who's enthusiasm, excellent english and knowledge is second to none and you've got the makings for a very enjoyable all but one hour tour and do enjoy the free treats at the end of the tour,i did and very nice they were too.
and if you have to wait ten minutes or so before your tour starts there is one of the smartest cafeterias and gift shops i have ever seen just above the entrance to the caves to enjoy.

Looking for a surprising interlude?
Oct 2019
On our car trip from Monsanto to Lisbon, took the detour to see these limestone caves. Don't be fooled by the location you arrive at to get your tickets and wait for the tour - the magic happens AFTER you watch the brief video history and enter the cave! Just a heads up if going down stairs are a serious challenge - the cave is a vertical one that requires walking down ~100 meters (elevator brings you back up)!

Dear not_too_late_to_go, Thank you for the review to Grutas da Moeda. There must be some mistake (which is very common among visitors)... In our caves, the way down isn't so hard as you describe... Also the the maximum depth in Grutas da Moeda is 45 meters and all the tour is walking, very comfortable, so no need for elevator... Maybe you visited several caves in this region, and had some mixed information... Don't worry! it's very usual to do so! :) Still, we are waiting for your visit, the next time you come to Portugal! Thanks again and hope to see you soon! Best regards,

Nice experience
Oct 2019 • Friends
The cave is very accessible and very close to Fatima. We were guided by Ruben whose English is excellent and who is very personable and informative. All the people there are extremely friendly. They even provided shuttle service to and from our hotel. The caves themselves are extraordinary and interesting. Learning about the limestone formation and the history of the finding of the cave were highlights. We were really happy we took this tour.

Cool spot
Apr 2019 • Family
The caves are a very short drive from the main area of Fàtima. We joined up with a small group of Portuguese families when we arrived. The guide spoke Portuguese and English. My 7 year old son really enjoyed the caves. I am a little claustrophobic, but I was perfectly fine in the caves. The pathway is easy to walk on. The ceilings are high. The cave formations really are quite beautiful. We also took the ticket for the small natural history museum on the same grounds as the caves. The young man who was our guide in the museum was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He helped my son to understand the different fossils and rocks. My son thought this museum was very interesting, and so did we.

Small but excelent

These caves are smaller than the national reference, Mira D'aire. However the guide is an excelent entertainer always willing to share fun facts and trivia about the environment. Pleade treat the caves with respect and by the rules

Gorgeously peaceful
Nov 2018 • Solo
This privately owned cave has a wonderful arched entrance way into its majesty. It is lit up with gorgeous amber colored lights place in strategically beautiful locations. The water in the cave moves so that the sound of it truly compliments all the cave’s beauty. As well, a perfect sound system plays light spa-like music in the background. If you desire, you can toss a coin and make a wish into one of the pools. At no point is they cave difficult to walk through. It is a beautifully designed to tour of nature that I highly recommend.
