I just been at prasat Preah khan kamong 2023 jan . I am happy after i saw the road to preah khan just building very nice condition , all the temple was very beautiful and interesting . i just confirmed road very good now

On 2014 we went to visit the prasat preah khan kampong sway temple or prasat Balang kampong sway temple , this temple temple very nice but it far a bit and stand in the forest , don't don't must tourist reach at this temple , i want to recommend all the tourist come to see get to know the preah khan temple , before this temple belong to kampong thom province but before to preah vihear temple , if you start the tour from Kampong thom province around 2h:30minute will be reach other , from preah vihear province only 1h:30 minute , if you start from siem reap province around 4h will be arriving this temple , Now the road to go there very nice ,

This temple is really off-the-beaten-track and highly rewarding.
It is located roughly 100km south east of Siem Reap, and much isolated.
I went there with my driver Sokra (who I cannot stop praising for how good, fast and safe was his driving) on his scooter, coming from Koh Ker on a 3 hours drive. The road was reasonable until the last 30/40 km (can't remember well) of unpaved and dirt road, we reached our destination around 2pm, where we found two (!) more visitors, who left after half an hour, leaving the place for ourselves, behaving like explorers of a wide area, deserving a longer stay.
The first temple that I visited was Prasat Preah Stung, where its central squared tower shows four beautiful faces of Buddha Lokeshvara, Bayon style, but with nobody around (a great plus), allowing for excellent photos.
The second temple was Preah Damrei with some nice carved apsaras on the outer wall and a peaceful atmosphere.
The third and last temple was Preah Khan itself, with a long outer wall enclosing several structure in not so good state, in a jungle-clad style, very Indiana Jones-like, but so charming.
I wished we could have stayed longer, but we wanted to leave this place before sunset, so we stayed for a couple of hours only.
We left at 4pm and had to drive a 70km dirt road in order to reach the junction to the main road from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, and then another 90km after sunset to get to my guesthouse in Siem Reap, very tired, but very satisfied of the whole 3 days of Easy Rider with Sokra, visiting the remote temples of Banteay Chhmar, Phnom Kulen, Beng Mealea, Koh Ker, Preah Khan.
While driving those 70km we also enjoyed the endless show of a huge rubber-tree plantation, covering such a vast area that we could not believe our eyes, that added to the whole experience!
Overall a must see place that deserves an overnight stay somewhere around.

The Khmer historical site of PREAH KHAN KAMPONG SVAY is one of the least visited temple ruins Cambodia, and also one of the best. The day I visited I was the only sightseer there. It is 104 Km from the nearby provincial town of Kampong Thom and will take approximately 2.5 hours to reach there. NOTE: during the rainy season the travel time may be longer due to potholes filled with water in the final 50 km stretch of road dirt. There is no public transport of any kind going out to this site so transportation must be with a hired four wheel drive vehicle or a motor cross bike. The price for trip to Preah Khan historical site in a hired four wheel drive vehicle = USD 100. NOTE: the best place to arrange for a vehicle hire is at the Arunras Hotel. The staff on the desk speak reasonable English and can put you in touch with a transport provider. NOTE: there is a laminated price chart at the Arunras Hotel giving the prices of all trips. These are standardised and not negotiable. I checked the price at three different hotels in kampong Thom, and they were all the same.
The best time for a visitation to the PREAH KHAN historical site is in the morning. The standard weather pattern in the area is hot in the morning and raining in the afternoon. For those getting serious about photography, I would suggest departing Kampong Thom at 5.00 AM. This will put you on site at about 7.30 – 8.00 AM. There is a USD 5 entry fee for each person.

The temples at preah khan are amazing and the place is basically as big as angkor wat but the difference is that in preah khan you will most likely be the only tourist there.
However, it is quite a hassle getting there. Me and my friends had to take a bus to Kompong Thom which is one of the cities closest to the temple. We stayed there one night, next morning we got up early and we got to the temple (approx 3 hour drive) and when we got back we had to stay another night to catch a bus out of Kompong Thom.
To get a driver to the temple we just asked a couple of tuk-tuk drivers and one of them had a brother who owned a car and he was willing to take us there. We paid 20$/pax for 4 persons. I dont know about any tourist agency that offers tours so I think asking the locals is the way to go!
I would say it was completely worth the extra work just to get away from all the tourists and as I wrote earlier, the temples are amazing! The area is huge and even though som ruins have collapsed, many of the buildings still stand. Basically an untouched angkor wat in The middle of the Cambodian jungle!

We had a bit of an adventure getting here, but was worth the effort.
One of the more remote temple complexes, it was only really relatively recently opened up. It was looted in the 1990s with jackhammers so it’s not as well preserved as some other places, but there are a number of reasonably large temples spread throughout the forest (some very overgrown). Most are close to the road, but one required a short walk and a bit of an explore to find it!
No food sellers here so BYO picnic!
Note: If self driving, there is a large green sign on Road 62 directing you towards Prasat Preah Khan at the Phnom Dek junction via Road 2623, this is also the road recommended by Google maps. This road had sections which were impassable by a 4WD in wet season. We would recommend driving further north on Road 62 and taking the turn off on Road 2623A (at Svay Pak, 64kms south of Krong Preah Vihear or 93km north of Kompong Thom – not signposted from the main road, but there were signs along the way at every intersection thereafter). This is a bumpy dirt road, but it was passable. You can also supposedly get through to Koh Ker from here (according to the lovely folks from Betreed), but we'd already used our car winch to get our 4WD out of being bogged on the 'impassable road' so decided not to chance it.

Prasat Bakan was the the second capital city of the Khmer empire after Angkor and the most inaccessible temple complex in Cambodia. It is located in the forest about 130km northeast of Siem Reap in Preah Vihear Province.
It can be reached either from the east or the south but either route involves hours of offroad driving through a bewildering maze of dirt roads with no signage or landmarks. Hire an expert guide and interview them to make sure they have actually made the journey themselves and are very familiar with the route. It is an all-day trip either out of Kompong Thom or from Siem Reap.
The site is very remote and sees very few visitors and you will likely be the only visitor there. The walled city is approximately 600 square meters with 4 gates. While the main trails are easy to traverse, much of it is overgrown. As such, be careful climbing on the structures as there may be snakes.
This is the closest thing to an Indiana Jones experience. See it before the crowds arrive.

Once again this is a group of temples rather than just one. There is an elephant temple and a smiling Buddha one in the same area. Originally there was a huge reservoir but now it is half full and you can walk to a temple in what would have been the middle of the lake.
The main temple is huge, unfortunately, due to its remote location it has been seriously looted with parts of the original stone broken into small pieces as they smashed into the temples.
This area is way off the beaten track and you will be lucky if you see another tourist, it's out of the way for the locals as well so there is a chance of seeing and hearing birds!

Totally deserted temple in the middle of nowhere. If you make the effort to get here then you will be rewarded with a blissful serenity far from the madding crowds of Angkor. The ravages of desolated time have taken its toll on this once magnificent temple which can still be imagined from what is left. We were the only visitors, the only other person we can across was the temple guardian who politely pointed to things of interest that we may have missed had he not been there. Out side the police kindly escorted us to the outlying surrounding buildings / temples and vast baray. we approached the temple area from Tbeng Meanchey which is the provincial capitol of Preah Vihear where Preah Khan (Prasat Bakan) can be found. Once we had finished we were invited back to the policemans house for a wonderful home cooked meal. From Tbeng Meanchey its about 105 km north-east approx. 2hrs, there was an excellent place to stay the Soksan Motel. From Preah Khan to siem reap takes about 4 hours the roads are bad.

Enchanting and tourist deserted example of early temple building in Cambodia.
Fabulously preserved bearing in mind the number of wars and poverty in the country.
It is off the beaten track but if one's travelling between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh then it is certainly worth a stopover.
Peaceful and unspoiled; yet. Hopefully they'll have the funds to keep it in shape for future generations.

Come arrivare con mezzi pubblici da Siem Raep a Kampong Thom e da qui al Preah Khan of Kampong Svay? Si riesce a vedere l'essenziale in un solo giorno viaggio compreso da e per Kompong Thom?
Da Kompong Thom ci sono mezzi pubblici per Phnon Pen? Quali gli orari? e qualcuno sa dirmi che mezzi pubblici usare e quale percorso seguire per raggiungere Banlung partendo da Kompong Thom?
Mi piace uscire dai circuiti classici peraltro già percorsi in passato, ma non riesco a trovare alcuna informazione. Chi mi aiuta? Grazie!!!
