Very big religious site with a bit of everything and nothing. Visited in January 2022 with absolutely no tourist so its great but sad at the same time. The walk to the top is nice with fresh and cold air. Staff all the way is very friendly and helpful.

Went to Yen Tu Mountain yesterday from Ha Long City. We took the Dong Trieu-Cam Pha bus going to Uong Bi. We just the conductor that we're going to Yen Tu. We paid 20,000VND/person. From the drop off point, we took a taxi to the foot of the mountain. We paid 95,000 VND for the 10km (I think) trip. Then, we took the 6-9 minute e-car ride (10,000/person) to the first cable car station. We bought two-way tickets for 280,000VND/person (good for 4 cable car rides -- 2 up and 2 down). We just followed the signs to get to the next cable car station. There are steps going up and there's a temple along the way to the next cable car station. I think it's Chua Hoa Sen. The second cable car ride up is a little scary (wink) because it's higher and it's a steep. It's a longer ride too. After the ride, we walked for about 1 km to the peak of the mountain. You'll pass by the bronze Buddha. To go to the peak, you'll have to take the path on the left, up. The path is a little tough climb but the view is amazing. If you'll take the path on the right of the bronze Buddha, which is actually the exit path from the peak, you will not have a view because of the trees. At the top of the Yen Tu mountain you will see the 100% bronze temple, Chua Dong. The view is just awesome. It's a holy place so it's so peaceful up there. Take note, the path going up the peak and going down is different. Please follow the signs.
Overall, we enjoyed our trip to Yen Tu. We had good photos that we can share in Facebook for friends to see. There are a lot of places where you can eat while climbing. The price is not that expensive too. Also, there are clean WCs in almost every stop so it's not a problem should there be a need.
TIP: It's best if you take your motorbike with you when you go to Yen Tu. There are a lot of temples along the way to the foot of the mountain. A lot of photo ops :)

A remote temple complex high atop the mountain, with shrines at different levels, culminating in an unexpectedly small, old wooden and authentic temple on the summit. To get to the top, two cable rides are required and in between you will climb (what feels like) several hundred steps. You can do this independently and staff will guide you towards towards your destination. The complex bustles with eager pilgrims who battle up the steps to glance at the temple on the mount. I was fortunate to go along with a Vietnamese friend and his 86 year-old granny, who raced up the hundreds of steps in slippers, to the admiration of all. Inspirational! You will see elderly people demonstrating their faith on this onerous trek and also witness the respect paid to them by other pilgrims. The temples and shrines themselves are similar to others I have seen, including the large golden buddha perched midway on the mountain. However, it is the location and hard climb which gives this place its distinctive character...the vistas are refreshing despite sights of economic development of forested areas .. it is different, and worth a visit, especially if you are with local people and one can intuitively feel the significance of the place. You will need to shower and rest thereafter....maybe even a good massage .....treat yourself. Take good walking/climbing shoes ; water and snacks can be purchased along the way. Remember to factor-in the cost of a taxi ride to the complex, because it is rather remote. For those are culturally attuned, it is well worth a day out.

The speed limit in Vietnam is 40km/hr, which made me crazy in the car. I felt like 10km/hr.. So slow.
The reason is to protect the motor bikers, authorities apply same speed limit to all vehicles, if the roads are designated for motor bike and cars.
So from Hanoi to Halong Bay takes about 3 and half hours by car or bus under the 40km/hr speed limit. Yen Tu Mountain is located on the way back to Hanoi so very good location where you can take a break from slow driving. The Mountain has cable cabin to reach the top.
Since majority of Vietnameses are Buddhist, this place is one of sacred place for them. It is not that much splendid area compare to Burma's heritage, but there is a quiet and cozy temple. I did not have time to reach the summit where the Buddha statue but still worth to see at least once.
The 3 Kings who won from the wars against Jinghis khan's troop, became monks in this temple. Their relics are still existing.
One the way to the entrance, there is a restaurant where you can taste local food which is very good.

Yen Tu has a fantastic view and culture. It is located only 45 min from Ha Long and is on the way back to Hanoi. It is well known as Vietnamese Buddhism sacred place and has a lot more attractions which has stories of ancient Vietnam. We were not Buddhist so, were not so interested in their Buddhism story but it has definite reason to go there. The view from the top of the mountain was fantastic especially trekking through cloud was the most unique experience. The trekking course of mountain was not too difficult because of cable cars (VND 280,000 for return). There are not many facilities now but seems there will be a massive construction to develop area. The restaurant before cable car offers lots of varieties of Vietnamese food and also traditional music band performance during your meal. It is quite difficult to find its information but you may ask your tour guide to visit there if you are in tour group.

We spent a day trekking up Yen Tu Mountain. Even with two long and very high cable car rides there's still plenty of stairs and rocks to scramble up towards the great Buddha and Pagoda at the top. Obviously, it is a great view – even if you go up to the first Pagoda. Wear comfortable shoes, take plenty pf water (although even at the top there are several vendors selling cold drinks. When we visited there were no more than 10-20 people up there, however we heard that during some days there can be thousands paying tribute. Check before you go.

Yen Tu Mountain is well-known all around Vietnam with its pretty views and religious buildings. So it takes me 3.5 hours from foot of the moutain to Bronze Pagoda 1068m. Steps are amazing and really need to be careful.
I decided claiming up to the top and take 2 cable car tickets to get back. Really recommend staying over in Yen Tu Pilgrimage Village. Their room and services were nice and close to the moutain.

We had a wonderful time in the Yen Tu area with the shore excursions from our cruise with Asia Pearl Travel. They customized their trip to our desire and brought us the amazing experience for the trip off shore Halong Bay. We totally enjoyed the visit and would recommend the company to everybody!

We will be in Halong Bay for one long day. It has been suggested to visit Ba Vang Pagoda or Truc Lam Giac Tam Zen Monastery. But I wonder if Yen Tu is more authentic and interesting. What is your opinion?
