Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Le Castella is indeed a magnificent castle and place but could be much improved by fines for littering and controlling the ignorance of people throwing away cigarette butt's and rubbish around its beautiful surroundings. This is True of many of the scenic places in Calabria which the local Sindaco need to enforce a cleaner approach. Beaches are some of best in the world and only solution by lazy people who think it's acceptable to leave their rubbish on the beach. Rant over. It's a lovely place but please respect it.

An impressive restored castle on a small island surrounded by the Ionian Sea. A fantastic sight, without the crowds of tourists you might get in more northern parts of Europe. The only thing that would have made it better is if we had thought to bring our swimsuits so we could have had the happy snaps of U.S. swimming in front of a castle!

Le castella is a small beautiful village on the Ionio Sea cost. Clean water, wild nature, nice turist attractions, excellent food.
It's the right place for holidays. Le Castella and surroundings offer a lot of activities: sailing, fishing, riding, turist and historical attractions, promenades, mountain...

This is one of those hidden gems that you need to really look for while exploring the Ionian Sea coast along Southern Italy. The only way you'll be able to get here is by car, or boat, and it's not really close to anything, other than the small town surrounding it. There might be a B&B there. A long time outpost, Le Castella has its origins over 2000 years ago, as the Greeks were settling Southern Italy. You can still see the original walls built by the ancient Greeks, which were then expanded upon to its current "archaeological state" by the Aragonese. Of historical significance also with regards to the advance of the Ottoman Empire. Sit back, enjoy the breathtaking views, catch the sunset, and let your mind play games of how it might have been in its heyday! What amazes me is the massive scope of the construction before our modern technology.

The castle is such amazing, dropped almost into the sea, surrounded by it, just a nice path built where you can walk from the land to the castle. Is possible to visit it going inside and it's good. There's a nice bar in front of it where we enjoyed a beer looking at the sunset .

Certainly the castle is impressive, in the sea and with a large zone totally restored.
The view on the top of the tower is great and the internal of the castle is interesting.
The only problem is some areas not mainteined, some broken lights and garbage around the castle.
Having said that, certainly to see.

We visited the castle in the late afternoon which is a great time to go because you get the cool breeze and the sunset.
€4 per adult seemed like good value for money.
Signs in multiple languages.
We wandered around for about an hour enjoying the views and learning about the history.

It was nice castello which may be on a small island or peninsula to which is leading to a narrow path and bridge.
