A charming village with a cool monument
Jul 2020
The monument itself is not the reason why I give an excellent rating, but the village, the view, the cosiness and everything about this place. The monument itself is huge, and the mermaid story and human husband is found in many cultures, but still, it's a nice local legend that gives them a monument to gather around and attract tourists. Bring a book, sit by the seaside and read, enjoy the view and the mermaid. Make sure you bring food! No service around

Statue on the exceptional island of Kalsoy
May 2019
The Seal woman statue in the village of Mikladalur is a stop to or from your hike to the Kalsoy Lighthouse. There are a lot of stairs to reach it, but certainly worth it. It can be very slippery at the bottom of the stairs, so be careful. The story on this statue is explained along the way, and provides more insight into Mikladalur and it's history.

A crazy place to get to but well worth it!
Aug 2019
With our own seal woman we just had to see the statue. I guess we got the hint when we couldn’t find much information in Torshavn on how to get there. A beautiful statue in stunning scenery couldn’t be that hard to get to. Surely? It is. First you need to get on the tiny, infrequent car ferry from Klaksvik. Then negotiate the windy, long single lane tunnels with lots of barriers waiting to hit you. And you know you have to go back eventually! The statue is great and the land beautiful but it’s the journey you’ll remember and then you think “how many people have ever done this”? Not many and it was worth every minute and every scratch on the hire car!

Dramatic staute in breathtaking scenery!
Sep 2019
Framed by spectacular and wild scenery, the statue of Kópakonan was the highlight of my trip to Kalsoy! It's a bit of a hike down the steps to get to her, but it's certainly worth the effort - and if you wait long enough, you'll get to see some impressive waves crash over the statue too, adding to the drama! Be sure to read the story of the Seal Woman to fully appreciate her role in Faroese mythology and how her curse on Mikladalur is supposedly still felt today

Worth the challenges of getting to visit it
Jun 2019
It is a fun journey to get from Torvsham to Kopakonan. We enjoyed learning the legend and the curse. It is short walk from the parking area to the statue. We were there on a calm day and got great pictures but we saw videos of wavy days and it could be dangerous.

Most Beautiful village

Mykladalur is fanatastic! Only a few houses and green tall cliffs that goes right in to the ocean, where you can take the stairs down to see the Seal Woman. Make sure to read the story about her before you go. It is a magical place with tiny waterfalls and waves. We went with MMtours.

Very mystic place - nice statue

On the way back of the Kallur Lighthouse it would almost equal to a crime not to visit Kopakonan. There is a car park in that small village which also provides a super clean toilet. You have to go down quite a few steps to Kopakonan so be aware that you have to walk them up afterwards. There is also a beautiful waterfall next to the statue which is worth the effort.

Beautiful!

Mikladalur is such a lovely place - we parked and went walking down to the sea. There are many stairs which is ok on the way down... and make you feel your thighs are alive on the way back... There is also toilets - free of charge. It was really fantastic down by the monument - and we sat down with our snack and had a good break while listening to the sea - and looked for seals!

Quirky site surrounded by natural beauty

A sad and fascinating fairytale depicted by a beautiful statue. Anyone visiting Kalsoy with their own car should take the chance to see it on their way to Trollanes. The story is well worth a read!
