This is a great spot for a 360 view of the whole island, it is best to drive up there, don't take a tour bus! If you drive, be careful, the road is narrow (practice courtesy for oncoming vehicles)

Best view of the whole island a must visit for all visitors. There is so much more to island than the typical caldera view and sunset. Be mindful that there is a Greek defence installation on the hill next to the monastery so photography of...More
The Moni Profitou Iliou provides perfect panoramic views of the whole of Santorini, indeed you can actually see the whole shape of the island (and marvel at the planes landing at the airport) from the highest point in the island.

As the highest point on the island you naturally get a good view but it also has a peaceful tranquil feel in the monastery garden. There is a small shop selling touristy type products.

Congratulations on your upcoming trip! It is a beautiful island. I can only speak to the question about whether there would be cabs available- the answer is no, not unless you schedule one to meet you there. This is really as remote a site as there is on the island. I know there are walking trails connecting the monastery to other areas and while I haven't walked them I can assure you they are steep! We got there on mopeds and it was a fun trip. We also went to the lighthouse on our mopeds. They are a great way to get around. If it is hiking you are after I am sure you are planning the Fira to Oia (and back if you want) trail. Sorry I can't answer your whole question! Enjoy.
