OUTSTANDING SAFARI

885141965

I booked a 17 day Safari for 10 people with Twyfelfontein Elephant Drives and Safaris pre pandemic .
It was then put on hold (with the rest of the world) until October 2022 .)
When we came to rearrange the dates etc I expected the prices to of shot up. I was wrong ,the cost of the vehicle hire had gone up and fuel which worked out at £100 extra each ...Twyfelfontein Elephant Drives and Safaris managed to keep the rest in budget.Credit to them .
The tour was in self drive 4x4`s with roof tents All were in good condition and had recovery insurance . Our main guide Charles Ryan drove an administration vehicle with trailer .
We drove to the south to see the quiver trees and then various locations driving North to Etosha before finishing back at Windhoek. We had several hours on the elephant drive at Twyfelfontein and saw plenty of elephant ,the guides knowing where to look .Each elephant is known and named .
The trip was well organised with well spaced locations . Charles and his team did all the cooking (Open fires) all cleaning up . This trip exceeded all of our expectations ,so much so that we are booked for another adventure with Twyfelfontein Elephant Drives in 2024 this time in Botswana.

This tour was a highlight of our trip to Nambia. We were visiting from Blantyre and have seen elephants on safari there but this was a whole different experience. The trip was very flexible to our group which included someone interested in birds not just elephants.
Charles, one of the guides added a huge amount to our experience. He was knowledgeable about the history and lives of the desert elephants and painted a rich story of their family, character, physiology and habitats. He also had scarily good birding knowledge and we found some endemic species without detracting from the elephant tracking. We had a brilliant close up encounter with a baby elephant and a large female and also learnt plenty about politics, geology and a small amount about local customs and culture. The safari vehicles were brand new and well equipped with seat belts, warm blankets for morning departures and ample pockets for cameras, binoculars and snacks. The whole affair is very environmentally conscious and routed in family from the local vaccinty hoping to build something in their community. Unreservedly recommend.

It took a long time driving around searching, but eventually our guide Ferdinand located a group of these amazing desert ellies and they were happy to put on a show for us. Ferdinand put on his own show, making out he could “read” the poos of the elephants and could even tell us their ages and names from them!!!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the ellies in their natural habitat and recommend doing it with Charles and his team.

We had the most amazing day with Charles.
He is incredibly friendly and extremely knowledgable about the Desert Elephants and the surrounding area. The reception area was very inviting and the planting was beautiful and we were welcomed and felt at home immediately.
Firstly, within about an hour we had a fabulous close up encounter with a bull elephant and then as we travelled through the river bed we managed to find the herd that Charles was in search of, we were also lucky enough to see some giraffe.
This was a truly unforgettable, fantastic experience which I would and have recommended.
Thanks Charles, we hope to return.

‘If you travel to Africa and you return as the same person, you have wasted your time’ -Charles @ Twyfelfontein Elephant Drive

Although being initially a bit sceptical on doing an elephant drive on our way to Etosha, this was an awesome experience. Xander and Charles guided us through the amazing landscape, ‘hunting’ for elephants while ‘tripping’ over giraffes and other local Damaraland wildlife and flora.

The best guides ever: highly educational and completed with the appropriate level of wit and humor. Clearly a company that is serious about providing its guests a top notch experience. And did I mention the supercool logo yet? Thank you Charles for letting me keep your hat, ending my 3 year long search for the perfect summer head ware.

One of these rare occasions where you wish also a six star review would be possible.

Hope to come back some day…

A must see to understand what adaptation to climate conditions mean!
Its unique to Namibia. Some 200 elephant live in almost desert condition. they live in this semi desert area. having half of their daily water consumption, and 30% of the vegetation they eat! We were told that they are genetically same as other African elephants, they just adopt different living quantity. They know to identify where is undersoil water and use their tusks. to dig in the soil and find the water.
We went to a safari drive from the lodge we stay that took ~ 2 hr to watch these unique phenomena of desert elephants! It is strongly recommended.

As we were staying at a nearby lodge, next to the bushmen engraving site, we decided to meet the desert elephants. We booked a tour with Twyfelfontaine Elephant Drive. What an experience!

The staff at reception were very nice and the guide that took us on the tour transmitted his broad knowledge on these animals.

He found the elephants, and brought us so close to them with a complete respect towards these animals.

We enjoyed it very much. If around the area, the tour is so worth it. Thanks for the experience!

Charles and Ferdinand and the rest of the staff were amazing. We had a lovely afternoon on their company. They are very knowledgeable about the elephants' way of life and history. We sat in the vehicle for a couple of hours watching the elephants at a respectful distance. Charles had many stories ot keep us entertain.

Cherry on the cake: upon returning to their base, we found out our van had a puncture and the staff changed the tire and fixed it for us. What would have taken us a couple of hours to do and lots of hassle to fix, was done in record time by the team.
Many thnaks again!
