My niece treated me to a visit on the Ross Revenge for a birthday present. Wow, perfect weather all day and such a great experience. We were made very welcome by Stuart, who did both the boat trip from the shore to ship and some of the commentary about the ships history along with Paul, who also knew his stuff! And Paula too, who organises these trips. We saw so much, from the ship's bridge with all its original control gear still present, onto the engines, generators, etc and then onto the the crew accomodation, kitchen and mess room. Really good. For us, the best bit were the two studios in which one has two vinyl turntables and the other an all-digital set up. The vinyl library was impressive too, I've never seen so many! I'd happily go again for another visit, its such a great thing to do.

Had the most lovely afternoon on the boat today. The tour guides were fantastic. I would highly recommend a trip. The boat trip out to the radio Caroline is great too!

I booked a trip to visit Radio Caroline for my wife for her birthday as she had been a DJ on the Ross Revenge in the 80s. She had the best time! The tour of the ship was informative and having the opportunity to see the record library and studio again brought back so many memories. Everyone onboard were so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. If you are a fan of Radio Caroline then this trip is a must!

It took me sixty years to visit Radio Caroline ( I had been a Radio Caroline North listener in 1960s school days).

Kevin Turner was our host on our tour of the ship. We even got below deck to see the original generators and what was top broadcast technology in the 1990s. Kevin was a great host and highly knowledgable not just about Radio Caroline but the other offshore radio ships as well.

Of course the legal transmitters are on land now. It’s ironic that an old BBC transmitter blasts out the 648AM output!

That was an amazing and memorable trip out to the Ross Revenge - a legend in itself as well, thanks to the Cod Wars.

What a brilliant afternoon aboard The Ross Revenge, home to Radio Caroline.
Being a child of the 50’s I was brought up with Radio Caroline.

Bit of a chilly day for the 20 min trip from Bradwell to the Ross Revenge but once aboard were cordially welcomed by Ray Clark who was our guide and told us the Caroline story, albeit an abridged version due to time restraints, but Ray new his subject very well.

Broadcasting was performed the whole time we were there and we were shown most areas including the engine room, all 3 levels of it, decks, forward & aft, the mess room & kitchen, where there was a lovely smell of the DJ’s dinner being cooked, the bridge, then record store and the ‘live’ studio, which was playing Radar Love by Golden Earing.

All too soon it was time to leave and return to shore, but if there’s any space for another DJ I’m certainly a willing participant, I’d stay out there all week if required😁.

Thanks to all the people we met and to those who organise the trips, a great experience THANK YOU ALL 😀😃😄

Fascinating tour and a real sense of living history. Staff were engaging, pleasant and enthusiastic and it was great to watch the presenters at work. Time flew by and you got a senmse opf the cramped conditions. All very atmospheric

We did wonder if there was any mileage in 2 things:
1. Talking even more about the names of the past and the stories of what went on aboard ship in the 60's and 70's, if appropriate!
2. Maybe using the one redundant studio to let people have a go at recording a link between 2 tracks. It could be fun and add to the experience.

Oh! ... and we were surprised that there was little being done to celebrate the 60th birthday. Has anyone planned anything? I am sure Johnny walker and Tony Blackburn would be interested to know what was going on

We were so lucky!

Great tour, lots to see. Many memories and photo opportunities. And the sun was out.

Thank you Kevin and Paula.

Okay, so I have been before, but every time I go I see and learn something different. I have been on both non-broadcast days as well as Live Broadcast (Caroline North) days. The ship is quieter when there is no broadcast, but is buzzing on Caroline North weekends, which is when I went with my brother and four friends from my village. We got West Mersea pontoon an hour early so we had time for breakfast and coffee at ‘The Blackwater Pearl’ Cafe at the end of the jetty. Paula and Stewart welcomed us aboard the Razorbill 3, and we sped off to the Ross Revenge moored in the River Blackwater.
Johnny Lewis showed us around and talked of life aboard the ship in the Pirate days of the 1980’s, and answered all our questions from life onboard to more technical stuff. Absolutely excellent.
Great to see progress on several projects, but the rust is evident and the old boat must make it into dry dock soon to be preserved, what a fantastic project and a credit to the hard work of both the Caroline management and renovation teams.
All in all a great experience and recommended to all!
We will definitely return….

Tour guide Josh was friendly, enthusiastic about the subject and ensured nobody felt rushed. Great chat too with presenters Grant, Johnnie and Kevin. Being a belated birthday gathering for me, the weekend of the station’s 60th and a beautiful (National Pencil) day just topped it all off. Younger members of the party were clearly impressed at the whole experience and the brand itself. My only regret was I forgot to look out for Bella (Johnnie’s dog) - but she came to see us off. Thanks to the super organised and sensible Paula for making the day run so well and the captain of our tender.
