this is the biggest of the wildlife reserves in Srilanka. tourists need to pay about £18 to get in & take note of this along with vehicle hire & guide. we were unlucky that we saw only one elephant & just a fleeting glimpse of...More

Highly recommended place to visit. This area is famous for its leopard’s population but unfortunately we didn’t see any of them. We saw elephants, crocodile, lizards, deers, wild boars, monkeys and lots of different types of birds. The tour takes about 4 hours.

The we a half day morning safari. The park itself is beautiful and we spotted a lot of wildlife including crocodiles, peacocks, various birds, wild pigs and buffalos. Sadly no bears, elephants or leopards for which the park is famous. I think this is largely...More

Only birds to be seen, no elephants, leopards, beards. Not much to see. Better Parks around, like Minneriya even if it is overcrowded.

Too constrained by size of area traversed, no off roading, too few tracks, appalling picnic area and not allowed to stop anywhere else to stretch legs. Too many jeeps so any limited sightings ruined by diesel and engine noise - and little normal safari good...More

At the park gates at 6.30 am. Spent the next six hours sitting in a jeep riding through the forest but only saw a few significant birds, many monkeys, deer, 4 tigers and couple of other animals. The park is not teeming with wildlife.

I was wary of other national parks in Sri Lanka (e.g. Yala, Minneriya) as I had heard they were very busy with jeeps and I really don't enjoy viewing wildlife when you are one of 20 jeeps crowded around - so I thought I would...More

We did 2 safaris at Wilpattu. One was an afternoon safari and one was an all day safari. Wilpattu is a big park and there are less roads than at Yala, but there are also a lot less jeeps, and for much of our wildlife...More

Best times to visit the park is early morning or after about 3pm because the rest of the time the sun and heat drives the animals inside shady areas where sightings are difficult. Having said that, if you are lucky you may... More
