Beautiful scenery.

Clean.

You can truly enjoy a nice morning walk along the lake.

Approximately 7 km to lap the lake.

@ the entrance you will be asked by some locals who will offer you to drive you around the lake to tour the major sites. We did not use this service. Up to you.

No subway station nearby. Ask your hotel for directions. We took the bus from Kaohsiung Train Station and it took about 30 minutes without traffic.

Has a nominal entrance fee. Worth it.

There is an aquarium within the attraction. Not worth your time. It is old and out dated.

Has several bench area cover with tree shades so you can sit down, enjoy yourself out of the sun.

There is a restaurant/tea shop that you can sit and drink tea.

Recommend visit in the morning. You can spend the entire morning there.

Someone told me Chengcing Lake is good. Well, it was really a very beautiful place in Kaohsiung. It is not a bad idea to hire a cab to get round the lake. The cab driver asked us NTW500 for about 2 hours ride.

This used to be the winter resort of the former leader of Taiwan, Chiang Kai Shek. Entrance fee is $NT100 for non residents of Kaohsiung.

It is a quite and serene park that's great for quiet stroll and relaxation. The former residence of Chiang is opened and can be visited. You can also rent a bike to move within the park. There is also an aquarium located within the park. It was the highlight of the park. It was amazing to see so many live nautilus swimming in the tanks.
Like most attractions in Taiwan, this park is in need of upkeep, and it was good to see on-going improvement and repair works.

When the air is still foggy, this is when the local and the elder gather around in ChengCing lake for exercise and TaiChi. Walk around the lake and the woods and enjoy the tranquility.
THere is no fee for entry before 6 or 7 if I am not wrong.

Spacious, very large lake but not particularly well landscaped and not many facilities. Good for a quiet chat. Not sure if there was even a place for food, although there are restaurants outside the park. Surprised there was no children's playground. For me the best was the aquarium (extra charge, I think 150). It is housed in what was the former presidential nuclear bunker, under a mountain. Small but interesting exhibits too.

I like to take a walk there because the lake is a wonderful place to watch a lot of beautiful birds. This is five-color bird. You can see five colors--green, blue, red, yellow and orange. The birds mate in spring and it's easy to spot these lovely little creatures in the park.

Peace and tranquillity can still be found here. As this park is not free for none locals I had to pay a small fee. But it was worth while as this is well established and well maintained park. With some nice spots.

Chengcing lake is my childhood playground. I recently visited this place after so many years living abroad. It is still refreshing. It is a decent sized man-made lake. Part of the water provides the city's drinking needs and part of it is used for agricultural and industrial purposes. Chiang Kai-shek (if you are familiar with modern Chinese history) used to have a modest cottage by the lake, and now it is used as a museum. There are several scenic sites alone the lake shore. It is a Chinese way to dress up the lake. Beginning at the entrance, there are two Chinese palace style buildings standing on top of a small hill which were used as aquariums before and now closed. Then, there is a series of pagodas, Chinese style gazebos, a zigzag bridge, arch bridges, a suspension bridge, a lotus pond, a shrine, a bell tower and temples. Each one bears a classic Chinese phrase/name to describe its beauty. I am no expert of literature translation, but I just want to give the readers a taste of the flavor. For example: Three gazebos embracing the moon (Am I making scenes?). It takes a good two hours to circle the lake by foot. In many way, it resembles the central park in New York. Many locals do their morning exercises inside the park It is also a popular place for picnic, Many locals bring foods and enjoy the serenity with their friends and family during their time off. The admission for residents of Kaohsiung is free. Other people pay abound 3 dollars (USD), and extra for cars. I highly recommend this place. However, it does requires a face lift. The newer constructions (things such as bridges, gazebos, or walkways) are not as classic as the older structures. More flowery vegetation will certainly help. So I give it a four-star

A good place to sit down by the lake with a good book and some music (head phone of course). Some nice pagodas and the zig zag bridge are places for photography. Best time to visit is in spring and late autumn.
