Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Almost all tourists to the area will end up here to take a look at the sunset, so it does get crowded. It does not help that they have blocked off access to the wetlands around 200 metres out, which means everyone is concentrated in a rather small area.

Must say that the sunset is spectacular, and you should also look at the small crabs hidden in the sand.

Do note that it can get cold, with the strong winds, and also that you are not allowed now to step onto the sand. There is a fine if you do so.

Such a must visit place in Taichung. Even though it took an hour to there from the city centre, the sunset is such a unforgettable experience. We spent about 2 hours there for taking photo TIL sunset. We joined the half day tour and this is the last stop.

Took a TRA train from Taichung to Qingshun station. The bus stop is 100m from the station in front of a Family Mart.
The bus schedule said Bus no. 688 would arrive at 11am. It didn't. Bus no. 111 showed up so I took it. It went to Fishermans Harbour then the Port Passenger Terminal. I decided, forget it I'm going back to Taichung. After the driver's break I got back on expecting to end up back at the train station. We went to Fishermans Harbour and then Gaomei Wetlands. So I arrived after all.
There is a bus stop outside the Visitors Center as well as on the wetlands side.
The wooden walkway is about 1km walk along the wetlands coast. I did not bother to walk there as I didn't want to then have to walk back. I wasn't taking any chances as I waited for bus no. 178/179 back at the bus stop where I was dropped off. After I was picked up we not only went to the bus stop inside but also down to a bus stop near the board walk. If I had known that I would have walked down there.
Anyway, there were a few birds there but make sure you visit around low tide.
With waiting times for trains and buses the return trip took up most of the day.
If I had limited time I'd focus on Taichung City.

Bring along your camera to capture the serene and beautiful sunset looking out toward the horizon. Walk along the broadwalk out to wetland, see tiny crabs, mudskippers. Jump in into the shallow wetland at the edge if you're game for it. Bring along a jacket as it's cold in December. There is a local bus 178 from Qingshui station to the wetland, cheap versa taxi ride. Do note last bus leaving wetland else hail a taxi.

Around 16:30, we arrived there.
By dusk, the number of people increases.
It makes sense why there is so much wind and wind power.
I couldn't see the mud snails, but there were a lot of crabs, such as the Siomanequix.
It's precious because it's a view that you can't see until low tide, sunset & sunny weather overlap.
The pier to the marshes (?) Please be careful because the opening time of October 2024, when we went, was until 17:30. Well, considering the sunset time and the time of people returning, the gates seem to be open until about 18:30.

We went with the kkday tour. The Guides (Issaisan) took a lot of photos and were very kind. You can go by bus, but sometimes it's difficult to ask someone else to take a photo overseas, so it's very nice to have a photo of us in a beautiful landscape.

We were advised to unlock the pier from 17:30, and until then we passed the time at a nearby cafe and started walking on the pier with time. Unfortunately, it was not a clear day, and it was a bit cloudy, so I was not able to see the sunset, but I still enjoyed the windmill, the pier and the wind flowing over the mudflats. You can find crabs in the mudflats, and you can walk around the mudflats at the end of the pier. It takes a little time from Taichung, but I think it's still worth coming here.

After getting off at Qingshui Station, I rode Ubike for more than an hour. Riding against the wind when I got to the beach was very hard, but when I saw the sunset and the windmills, I felt it was very touching. Fortunately, there is a return post at the bus stop next to the Wetland Park, otherwise I really don’t have the strength to step back

A little far out from Taichung City but wanted to check out what the hype is all about with regard to the sunset. The wind is really strong so do cover up well. Whether it is worth it or not depends on how much love you have for watching sunset. For us, we are more excited about watching the huge wind turbines which I think in combination with the sunset as backdrop, makes the whole scene more spectacular. All in all, no regrets about making the trip as the experience with the whole family out there walking along the wooden path, braving the wind and looking at the small crabs crawling in a out of the mud is something to remember.

I took a taxi from Qingshui Station on the way there, and a local bus on the way back. There were quite a few tourists on the day. The best time to go is when low tide and dusk overlap. I especially recommend May to August. It's most beautiful about 30 minutes before sunset.

I’ve been to many places around the world, and been to a few cities in Taiwan, but Gaomei Wetland is one of the best places to be in Aida. You can see how well protected it is, and the crabs and other species there are nowhere to be found in Taiwan.

Pray for Taiwan, thank you.
