The area
Neighbourhood: Ruifan District
With its air of historical heritage, Shuijinjiu (ShueiNanDong, Jingguashi, Jiufen) used to be prosperous and glamorous due to mining. Although its magnificent semblance no longer exists, the peaceful and beautiful atmosphere has persisted. With a wave to the age of the gold rush, one can still see a glimpse of its glorious past through the Golden Waterfall. Gazing at the ShueiNanDong Remains of the 13 Levels, it is like a beautiful palace that was deserted, earning it the name of “Potala Palace of the Mountain Mines”. Probing forward to the mouth of the river is the considerably distinguished Yinyang Sea, with its half gold half bluish green spectacle inspiring countless imaginations of romance.
Walking along the streets of the meandering old streets of Jiufen and tasting the various kinds of authentic eateries is the love of tourists. Stepping into the Golden Museum, one can glimpse the historical traces of the mining industry culture, reminiscing of past glories from its museum, living quarters, and shrine remains.
The unassuming mountain city of Houtong used to be a mining village. With the call of cat lovers, volunteer groups were established to create a friendly environment for cats and turned Houtong into a cat village for cat lovers.

Actually, I was caught by a bunch of people over there, so I pulled over my car and saw what they were doing. This spot is pretty good at taking pics. The rocks with the beautiful ocean make me feel peaceful. BTW this place is free.
其實我是被一群人給吸引想說怎麼會那麼多人,所以我停了車看他們在做些什麼。這是一個拍照很美的地方。石群和美麗的海洋讓我覺得很平靜。還有這裡是不用錢的。

You are able to see many of these rocks along the coastal line and the many years of nature formation to create those beautiful rocks.

A great - dark and heavy rainy day for our trip with Edison Travels.
For sure it must be amazing on a very sunny day. It sadly rained like crazy so the photoshop was washed a bit away.

I've been to this place twice. A pity that it is not very popular, maybe because it is just along the coastal highway. There are no facilities (food stalls, comfort rooms, etc.) in the area. It is good 'though that there is now a parking space across the road and some warning signs have been installed.
The rock formations are really beautiful, striped in brown and red! Going down to the rocks below is a challenge,l especially during rainy days, but the view you get is really beautiful.
I hope this area can be developed too like Yehliu.

You first might not expect this, But there really is a lot of beauty in a bunch of stones together. The effects of minerals, weather and seawater really are astonishing!
And also many scenic skyline photo options!

Our shuttle stopped at the side of the road of the northern coast to see the Nanya rock formations. Unlike at Yehliu Park, there's no entrance fee here and there's like only 3 formations to see: (1) The 'Bamboo Shoot' which was the main formation which is visible from the road when you are driving and passing by the coast. (2) The 'Fish Eye' of which I thought was just a rock with some drawings carved by nature resembling an eye on a rock that was fish head shaped. (3) The 'Frog' which is more visible when you go down the trail a little bit. I have attached some pictures here for reference.
If you have been to Yehliu Park, then Nanya Rocks won't be of any interest to you. The main highlight of the Northern Coast Tour was actually the nearby Jiuofen Village.

It is interesting and pretty. Leave a few minutes to take pictures and walk around, however, it does not need a great deal of time to see it.

I would choose to come here rather than Yeliu where it be surrounded with tons of tourists. It's much smaller though. And you most definitely have no need to pay for admission fees.

It is located just next to the main road by the sea. After parking, we crossed the road and walked down the steps to get to the rocks. The vast field of natural rock patterns will make you feel so in awe of how beautiful nature is. There were even 2 sets of couples taking their wedding photos on that day, and some people fishing there. We could easily have spent half a day here if we have the time. The time spent was approximately 40 minutes.
