Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not much food.. Instead of a night market experience, you'll see a lot of boutique shops. Remember to bargain when shopping! I'll not recommend going there if you are looking for street food experience!!

ShiDa is a small night market if you're comparing it to the larger ShinLin night market - but it's perfect for me! It doesn't have the crazy crowds bumping into you - the folks here are young students and hipsters, and the stores have cooler designs and fashionable items.

The food here is pretty good too - not as many options but lotsa small roadside eateries.

I bought a cool black pleather jacket for $1880 TWD. There's a store at the end of ShiDa that has girly toiletries that make cute little gifts, and a stationery shop where we got cute 3D pop-up Christmas cards for about S$1 each - such a steal!

Take the MRT to Taipower Building, head to Exit 3, turn right and walk straight down to ShiDa road. I'd recommend walking to the end and heading back towards the MRT direction, turning into the left/right smaller lanes for more stores :)

Shida night market is bigger and better than shihlin night market. Whenever i visited taipei, I always visited Shihlin night market, but its just this time i went to shida night market. I like this night market because of its bigger, many good foods and good stores. Also, most of the visitors are students, so it is a benefit; at least the foods are good and cheap.
tips: do not visit this place during weekend, because its too crowd. Food stalls are along the way, so make sure you go there with empty stomach.

How to get there
Take MRT to Taipower building, take exit 3, turn right and you are in shida road.

Worst night market i have been too. Extremely crowded. Not only that, the limited food options were extremely overpriced. Furthermore, this night market is a 10 minutes walk from Taipower station, and half an hour walk away from yongkang street. You are better off going to Raohe or Ningxia night market.

There's still some cool stuff here, but it's not what it used to be. Shida used to be THE NIGHT MARKET, but sadly it's been shut down because local residents complained about noise levels. There's a few places that still remain, but it's not much of a night market anymore. Certainly not its old glory days.

We heard night markets were a big thing in Taipei, so we went to different ones for dinner each night. Try EVERYTHING! The food is delicious. Not as bustling as some other markets, but we wanted something low-key for our first night. I don’t know what the solution is for this, but we found it kind of frustrating that the food was fresh-off-the-griddle HOT and was served in thin plastic bags or paper folds. Hard to hold and too hot to eat right away.

It had been more than two years since we made a visit to Shida Night Market. Conditions have been changed with some well-known food stores being forced to move to some side streets and one reduced in size to a mere street hawker. Woe betide the disappearance of these icons! Red Lantern 紅燈籠 used to be famed for its 熱滷味. There used to be a long line of waiting to choose your food before cooking, and the restaurant itself had two stories with many tables for customers. What I learned from the owner was that they were forced to move to the side street with considerable reduction in size to merely two tables by the side of the street! Also the shop famous for its 生煎飽 received the same dreadful ordeal. A multi-folded rent increase was the real culprit! However, others take over the task of making the effort to sustain. Not bad as we still have the 牛魔王 , 牛老大麵館 and also some charcoal grilled BBQ. There were not many visitors the night we made a visit, probably because it was a rainy and cold night, and it was week-days! Still it is a good Night Market. You take the MRT green route Songshan-Xindian Line 松山新店線. Alight at the Taipower Building 台電大樓, turn right along Roosevelt road, section 3 and walk for about 5 minutes, then turn right again, and there is Shida Night Market!

After visited a few other markets the previous days, we were disappointed with this market. We realised the people here are not as friendly as the ones we've been; they don't smile as much too. If time is a constraint for your trip, you can remove this market off your list.

There are many shops here selling ladies' clothings, accessories and shoes. However, there are no trying of clothes. The clothes and shoes are very cheap and trendy. Though there are not many eateries here. We ate at one steak house and it is very cheap for a full course at twd180. The steak was very delicious and good.

My memories of the Shida Night Market from 2009 was a 5-star excellent experience.........the entire neighbourhood was filled with vendors selling all sorts of food and random merchandise on carts, on top of all the shops that lined along the streets. With those memories in mind, I decided to take a walk down memory's lane again yesterday.

Unfortunately, little have I known, things have changed and gone downhill significantly over the past 4 years.

Due to residential complaints against crowds, loud noises and traffic congestions generated by the popular legendary Shida market of the past, the government stepped in and blew the whistle. All the individual vendors with their little carts are gone.......what's left of Shida Night Market is a couple blocks of boutique shops and food vendors selling from shops along the street. This so-called "night market" is now merely a small shopping area catered to students from the nearby National Taiwan University. It is sad to see the Shida Market holding out on its last breathe, as it has certainly lost its charm and glamour of its bygone better days.

Unless you have lots of time in Taipei or you happen to live nearby the Shida Market.....otherwise, invest your time in Shihlin Night Market, Raohe Street Night Market or even Linjiang (Tonghua) Night Market instead..........these three markets all have better vibe (but more crowded), MUCH better food with more options, more shops, and much better-lit and prettier in general!
