must visit architectural marvel
The architecture of Gol Gumbaz is both elegant and innovative. The octagonal structure, crowned by the massive dome, showcases the ingenuity of the architect, Yaqut of Dabul. The whispering gallery within the dome is a unique feature that allows even the softest of sounds to reverberate, creating an intriguing acoustic experience.

Another historical gem in Karnataka
Very nice place to visit in Vijaypura. In fact while driving thru this place we planned a night stay just so that we can see this monument. It's big and while the climb up inside the dome is a bit strenuous but it's absolutely worth it. The whispering gallery is incredible, you can hear the mildest whisper on the opposite side! The whole area incld the gardens are well maintained by ASI. Few tips: 1. Try and get there early in the morning, this opens at 7am. There will be hardly any people at this time so you can enjoy the Whispering gallery! 2. There is huge car parking area at the entrance. 3. Photography is allowed inside the monument as well. 4. Do keep looking at the surrounding scenery after every floor. That'll keep you fresh and motivated!

Awesome Guide at Bijapur
Jehangir is the best guide I have met in a long time. His knowledge of history, stories around each monument, humor and joyful nature makes the entire journey enjoyable. His photographic side helps in taking the right clicks and he is an expert in creating video bursts too. All in all, I am happy we chose him and made our trip memorable

Excellent historical & architectural value.
Guide Jehangir contributed to our most valuable & satisfying full day experience of covering 14 sites of tremendous historical value in the town of Bijapur. We visited marvellous monuments from 13 to 17 th century AD & two very historical temples. All in a days work, with nice lunch in between. The in depth knowledge of Jehangir, a qualified guide is commendable, thereby bringing to life for us, some forgotten sketchy text book knowledge we had so far. The city is very valuable in the annals of our history. Very few, commonly visited monuments are maintained in good condition, while we went to almost all, witnessing the deterioration by nature, locals, but mainly by visitors. Thank you Jehangir, hope you share your knowledge with many interested tourists. He is available on +917892885755.

Massive and Majestic Structure of the City of Monuments.,Bijapur

Its a majestic massive structure and an Acoustic Wonder, showcasing the sculpture and art work of the Adil Shahi Dynasty of 17 century AD built in Bijapur, earlier named Vijayapura of Karnataka state.. It is one of the Biggest Dome structures in Indian History measuring 205 ft high and also having linear symmetry. There are also four different 7 staired steps to reach to the top of the dome. By reaching the top one finds a Whispering Gallery wherin the acoustic wonder of this dome is witnessed.
Always better to see this monument at the early hours of the day, otherwise you are hit by the scorching sun of the city.

Lawns are neatly maintained and there is an Archeological Musuem right in front of this monument.

This review tells less about the monument more of utilitarian things

Archaeological, historical and structural information of this amazing monument is available everywhere. I'll tell what's not commonly known.

1. It opens in the morning at 6. Do visit at earlier hours immediately after opening, as that will give you a good idea of whispering gallery. Post 10 o'clock, it's just a noisy place full of noises made by local youth. Nothing 'whispering' remains in whispering gallery.
2. I visited in the month of July. Climate was great, no rains, cool breezes, semi-hot. I loved it. This season also sees lesser footfall, meaning better, uncluttered pictures of the monument.
3. The premise has a cloak room at extremely cheap rates of Rs. 10 per bag for 12 hours (6am to 6pm). It's not available round the clock though but if you are visiting Vijayapura only for a day, do consider this cloak room instead of a hotel/lodge. The premise also has a Sulabh bathroom available at nominal rates, to help get you freshen up.
4. Premise upkeep is reasonably good. Many photospots are available.
5. Ticket window sells tickets at Rs. 25 for Indians; However, I recommend to use the QR code available near the ticket counter (left in a corner, on a half torn billboard). It'll give you an option of online payment and also sell you tickets at Rs. 20 only. Don't know why there's a difference of Rs. 5,and why the counter doesn't accept online payment.
6. Horse carts available outside premise which will take you around the town, covering all the heritage sites (except Shivagiri) for anywhere between Rs. 500 to Rs. 600,depending on how hard you negotiate. Do avail the service if you are in for a little adventurous, bumpy, leisurely, offbeat ride.

Gol Gumbaz is a mausoleum boasting the second largest dome ever built in the world. One of the most interesting attractions in it is the sound echos and traveling of whisper across 100's of feet under the center dome. It felt like magic. The architecture is a combination of Persian, Ottoman, and Deccan styles. The mausoleum has some interesting non-verified history, the central area is a dancer's stage before it was a tomb. Also, the person buried closest to the king was the dancer and not his wife. The story goes, that the king asked her, do you love me enough to jump from the top and she did. Based on this myth, lots of suicides happen here.

Would recommend visiting the place with a certified guide so he can make one enjoy the intricacies of sound transmission.

Amazing !!

A must-see monument in Bijapur. It's the world's second largest dome ( 11th Century ). There's enough and more information about it's history and architecture on the internet.
What nobody tells you is that footwear has to be removed outside and one has to walk on rough cobbled stones till you go inside where the floors are surprisingly spotlessly clean. The steps up the tower are steep and uneven in a very narrow staircase. There are 7 stages to the top and each landing is well ventilated.
If you have difficulty climbing, it's best to stay in the very large, impressive hall and admire the accoustics.

Bijapur - a historical feast awaits

For those interested in Indian history and culture, visiting Vijaypura or erstwhile Bijapur is a must. A veritable feast of Islam, Jain and Buddhist influences on the Indian subcontinent awaits. The buildings, architecture and design are mesmerizing, the beauty of each structure breathtaking. What made this visit even more meaningful was our guide. A young man by the name of Jehangir, passionate historian and wonderful story teller - he made Vijaypura come alive for us. Intertwining personal stories and anecdotes with historical facts with dates and specific incidents and design differences, he made sure our trip here was indeed unforgettable. As we like to eat culture as well, he suggested some of the best restaurants in the town too.
Highly recommend a visit to Bijapur / Vijaypura with Jehangir - phone number +91-9901468088. Book him in advance as he can get very busy during season time.

A tribute to the dead

I went to this city in a weekend.. And the best time to go is in the morning because as the day progresses it gets extremely hot to walk around.. The whispering gallery is basically the dome which is visible from the outside.. It is 7 storeys above the grond. We can also here the echos of our voice.. To experience this is a whole different dimension.. This is a must visit in this city..

An underrated architectural marvel.

My second visit to Gol Gumbaz really brought out the beauty and splendour of the monument. This was enabled by Jehangir the guide who had a complete knowledge of not only this place but all the other adilshahi monuments in the city. He was quite aware of his history and regaled us with stories of the historical places around Bijapur. I would advice you to take a guide or you will miss the tales which add a touch to make the monuments unforgettable.

An Architectural Marvel

An important period of Indian history is oft neglected - the Sultanates of the Deccan & in particular the AdilShahi Sultanate of Bijapur. The Gol Gumbaz or Gumbad is an absolute must visit, along with the Ibrahim Rouza monument. By luck we met the dynamic, young guide Jehangir who really knows his Daccani history. Weaving tales in both English & Hindi, both with equal ease, he’s an excellent resource to connect with (7892885755).

Bijapur loses 1 star for the really bad civic infrastructure in the city.
Otherwise, a really amazing destination with a lot of history and architecture.
We had an amazing time at the Gol Gumbaz, Ibrahim Rauza and all the other monuments from the Bahamani and Adil Shahi eras.
Our experience was enhanced by our guide, Mr Jahangir Kudlagi ( mobile +91 99014 68088) who patiently took us on a well planned trip to all the major sights and explained the history and architecture of the place (an unexpected bonus was his knowledge of the best tea shops in the city).

We visited it on 28th Dec 2019. The whole place is magnificent and beautiful. Visit early in the morning around 6 to avoid crowd. Most of the college kids shout at the top of their voice in the whispering gallery spoiling the whole experience, hence visit in the morning to experience the aucostic wonder of the entire place. Tickets are available online on makemytrip app.
