- saul gTel Aviv, Israel1,223 contributionsnice but not a mustHere we made one of stops on our 1 day tour of Northern Ireland from Belfast ( we had a lunch break at the adjacent Hedges hotel). The Dark Hedges is a very popular tourist attraction, mainly because part of Game Of Thrones was filmed here. The "boulevard" is nice , the surrounding countryside is beautiful, and there are a lot of other tourists like yourselves, wanting to take the photo shot that you are going to take. Nice but not a must.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 October 2023
- cheshire3131Runcorn, United Kingdom735 contributionsDark HedgesApparently brought to fame by Game of Thrones but this was years ago. People who are fans of series were dressing up to react a scene when we were there. Many of the trees are now dead and have been cut down and several more are due to be cut down as they are becoming dangerous. They are about 300 years so they have lasted well. Not as good as I have seen in older photos.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 October 2023
- david1892Tullamore, Ireland838 contributionsWorth a visitNice to visit to tick off the Game of Thrones list. We were there when it was very quiet so easy to get a good pic with no one in it. There is a good sized car park that costs £5 well signposted. There is also a cafe there for food and coffee.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 November 2023
- Colleen BSeattle, Washington108 contributionsPretty coolA nice walk amongst some really cool trees! It’s not as awe inspiring as the scenes from Game of Thrones, but still beautiful. There were definitely way too many people when we went which made it difficult to get a good photoVisited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 November 2023
- Michelle OGlasgow, United Kingdom172 contributionsWorth The Early StartBeing a photographer this was a must for me. Getting up early and out I arrived literally at daylight and was pleasantly surprised by how long the corridor was. It will be sad to see them go as they started to be trimmed/cut when I was there. A definite must for anyone who appreciates natureVisited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 January 2024
- BDBromley, United Kingdom926 contributionsWorth the stop off to see the beauty of the trees…My husband is a big Game of Thrones fan so jumped at the chance to make a stop before Carrick a rede rope bridge. We got a bit lost as couldn’t find the signposted car park so we parked on the verge near the no access road and walked a few minutes up. The trees were there in all their glory. There were people in the distance but we were able to get a perfect photo by standing in front of them so it looked like we were the only ones there! I’ve read the car park was £5 charge so I’m happy we decided to park where we did. Really no need to stay more than 5 minutes to get a few photos. Did enjoy it and glad we made the effort to find it.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 January 2024
- Ajb1207Champsac, France943 contributionsSpookyIconic Game of Thrones location. As it was mid January and the road was full of snow, the car park was closed so we only had chance to get a quick stop. Visitors should note the Lane is closed to traffic. Definitely worth a visit though.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 January 2024
- Christine JOxford, United Kingdom26 contributionsBeautiful sculptural trees lining a lingerie avenueWorth a detour if you're driving the Causeway Road. There will be other people there, so get there early before all the tourist buses arrive. You'll still get great photos, especially if you walk further along the hedges. Some of the older trees have been cut down as they have died, but it's lovely to see new ones being planted in their place - the Hedges should still be there in a hundred years. The Hedges Pantry offers a good cafe lunch - we had vegetable barley soup with fresh brown soda bread and a very generous pot of tea, which gave two full mugs. Parking is £5 for the car park - cash or card on exit.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 May 2024
- Fin2006Sunbury-On-Thames, United Kingdom71 contributionsNice to visit even if not GoT fans.Worth a visit to see these wonderful trees. Short walk from car park (rather expensive at £5 for a quick visit) past a Manor House and across the road to the avenue of trees. Slightly annoying motorbikes riding down the ‘no traffic’ road were a nuisance. Luckily not too many people when we visited but can imagine it can get very busy with Game of Thrones fans.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024
- Barbara G1 contributionDark Hedges parkingAlthough the Dark Hedges are worth a visit do not expect to get that exclusive tourist less photo unless you go early in the am. Note that all the roads around the famous lane have double yellow lines or rocks preventing by the road parking, thus forcing drivers to use the car park set up by the Dark Hedges hotel. Vehicles are banned from driving down the Dark Hedges rd. The hotel therefore has the monopoly on visitors parking which at the time of writing this review is £5. The carpark has barriers which will not let you out even if you don't want to stay. It was full of potholes and 2 inches of mud on our visit . I went here with the family during our break. The site is about a 10 minute drive from Ballymoney. There is a small free car park with a short walk to the trees. On the walk there you pass a small tea shop with lots of nesting boxes outside for those interested in bird watching in the spring and summer. When we reached the site there were a couple of people there taking photo's just like us. It's situated just off a main road but traffic does come up and down it. You can walk from one end to the other in about 10 minutes but because it was winter the place was deserted and it looked really atmospheric and I was able to take some nice pictures. It will look better in the summer but then the pictures will be different because bus loads of visitors will be forever in your view. If you're going to visit here, go very early morning or near sunset to get the best pictured.

My wife and I viisted this location early one morning to take photos before the crowds of tourists arrived. On arrival we met #thirdeyetraveller who was shooting a video blog for her website. She was very friendly and we discussed various locations we had both visited. The location was used as the Kings Road in the series game of thrones and is a traffic free lane of trees all gnarled and twisted covering the road to spectacular effect. We spent time there to see sunrise at location and enjoyed banter with Canadian and Italian photographers who were also visiting to avoid crowds. Whether you are a photographer or not. I would recommend a visit if in the area as it is truly spellbinding and one for your bucket list.

We were staying nearby so got up early and were there for around 7:30. Big car park specifically for Dark Hedges visitors at the Bell Tower Restaurant 2 min walk from the Dark Hedges lane. The trees look fantastic, the sunlight was breaking through and we were the only tourists there, so got very lucky. Beautiful photos from both ends of the lane, definitely walk the length of it to see the different perspectives, is only a couple of hundred metres long.

There are so many more beautiful sights to be seen in Northern Ireland than the dark hedges. Sure, they're quite pretty but don't go out of your way to see them. We stopped by on our drive to the coast. When you arrive, you pay for parking, then the path from the carpark leads you on a short walk past a small cafe (with toilets) and a residential house. Ahead of you then are the hedges, situated either side of a sloping country road. The walk takes around 10 minutes overall. It's fairly accessible but the place was crowded when we were there, with lots of people on bus tours visiting. Some of the trees have been carved in to, which is unfortunate. If you're a GOT fan, it can be one to tick off your sightseeing list but we recommend saving your money and your time - give it a miss.

Prior to visiting N Ireland I had seen a picture of the road and thought it would be good to take a drive down the road. I have never watched game of thrones and was put off a bit when I found out it was in this programme.
However we were in the area it was raining and not too much else so we thought we shall give it a go.
We got lucky as there was only half a dozen people there. Really enjoyed. The trees are old and knarled and sadly some have fallen down during recent storms. They are quite atmospheric.
As we about finished three coaches pulled into the car park so it can get quite busy.
The hotel is closed however you can park at the hotel for two pounds, which I thought was reasonable and it is only a short walk from thete to the road.

Lovely short walk, Not all that much to it but nice to see, For best photos park and the car park, And walk the full length and turn back you will then get the nicest views i found.
Whatever you do park up and walk it, Don't be on of those people who drive down it to see it. Kinda ruins it for others and makes parents worry about cars going down the path. There is signs say no traffic but that doesn't stop people.

Stopped here as had read about the dark hedges.
Parked in the car park which was £2 so very reasonable & walked through when we got to the start of the dark hedges there were clear signs advising no parking but a number of cars had parked there & were blocking the road causing congestion all to save £ 2
surely people can afford to pay this small amount. The hedges are very interesting i wouldn't go there especially but if in the area worth seeing.

Atmospheric: other worldly. This road is exactly as the photos would lead you to expect, except it gets busy and people 'spoil' your view. So it is well worth trying to get there when others are less likely.
You are not meant to drive along the road - but some folks ignore the signs and do. Very thoughtless. Parking is available just to the north end of the road: a large carpark. This was free when we visited but some guides refer to a charge

There is a small public road in Ballymoney that used to be the entrance to a castle.
Over 100 trees were planted over 100 years ago and now they are magnificent-tall, fully entagled with branches and leaves and dark day and night. Light simply disappears even on a bright summer day. We started the road in the sun but within moments a huge clap of thunder rang through us and the skies opened. We were drenched but happy to be in a fairly tale place. When the rains came the tourists evaporated to their buses and we were alone in this place.

As a GOT fan, we decided to approach to this magnificent place, and the "corridor of trees" was impressive, well-kept, and not much crowded despite the hour. Even if we followed the indicated directions, we observed that cars need to park into a close parking. Of course, this is correct and understandable to avoid too many tourists there. However, it is not correct to charge the same price even if you stay there for 10 minutes or the whole day, that is £5.
