Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Western Fujian is dotted with historic tulous, or village buildings. Hegui is a huge rectangular tower at the southern end of Yunshuiyao area. It is an encompassing edifice and living community, although a somehow commercialized one. Visitors can visit the ground of the wooden tower and glimpse the life of Fujian villagers.

Well-preserved.
Quite big!
2 mysteries to the place:
1) The ground shakes and bounces when you jump on it.
2) The well on the left brings clean clear water to the tulou while the well on the right provides murky water.
Found out why from the local tour guides.
There are 2 other tulous nearby, go see them too!

This rectangular tulou is off the path that runs from the bus area at Yunshuiyao to Yunshuiyao village. We didn't have a guided tour so we didn't hear the various stories about its construction. Different from other tulou, this one has a courtyard in front. As with all the tulou we visited, we were only allowed on the ground level. We visited early in the morning so there were few people around
Overall, the tulou are great. They are unique to this part of China and are worth seeing. The well-known tulou are like small markets, where sellers are placed all around the ground floor, selling various local products and souvenirs. I enjoyed more wandering through Yunshuiyao, not following the tourist trail but seeing how people lived in the numerous other tulou. I would recommend staying overnight, like we did, so we were able to see village life and eat in local restaurants. So while the tulou are interesting, for me it was great to be out in the countryside and see how rural people lived. With a little help from the people at the Tulou Visitor Centre, it is very easy to see these tulou and spend some time in the countryside without a guided tour.

This 200 year old rectangular tulou was built on a swamp. Started to sink after the 1st storey.
Right at the center of the inner space, it is said that when you jump at that spot, you can still feel the vibrations.
Tulou is near Yun Shui Yao and Huaiyun Lou. Worth a stop.
