This place is quite pretty but difficult to get a good photo as very touristy. Not really in a forest, more of a plantation at edge of city. The town near by is good for a wander.

Very unusual, must see place. We were lucky to appreciate the bamboo forest with leaves. Apparently the fall is best time to visit.

Yes it's pretty, yes it's small, and yes all the tourists really take away from enjoying it. Get there as early as possible to have the least amount of other people there with you. It only take about 5-10 minutes (depending on how fast you...More

Nice walk if your in arashima. Lots of food stalls at the start of the walk. Makes good photo. Very popular spot. Would recommend going to the monkey park if your coming here as it is just a quick walk away and so so cool.

The bamboo forest is not very long stretch of woods and it was extremely crowded. I would recommend seeing it, but very early in the morning. It was very crowded by 9:30.

Very busy lots of tourists.Much smaller area than anticipated. Not as peaceful as the tourist brochures display it. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Within walking distance of JR station.

My husband and I visited the bamboo grove during our day trip to Arashiyama in October 2018 and enjoyed the time we spent there. Having read earlier reviews, we left Kyoto early and were in the bamboo grove by 8:30am. When people tell you to...More

Nice to see if you are around, but not that special to go specially for this place. The bamboo is relatively young and you can only walk along with all the other tourists on an asphalt road for about 200 meters.

This is by far one of the neatest places to check out. Go early for some good pictures while walking down the path. Late morning, by lunch time the path ways become very full of people and it is hard to get pictures with out...More

Actually I didn't see any official entrance so I might say that yes it's open everyday. By the other hand yes it's free, no ticket is required. Hope that helps!

The bamboo forest is not in the central location of kyoto. It is in Arashiyama to the west of Kyoto.
