We were fortunate to be in Kyoto during the last few months of 2018 when the pagoda was illuminated at night. A plus was that it was not packed out like most tourist attractions in Kyoto. It was a pleasure to enjoy the setting and...More

Quite possibly the best site ive seen in Japan. During Sakora season it is lit up to perfection at night. You must visit!

Unless one has a craving for knowledge about Japanese religious culture, the high price of admission to part of the Toji Temple complex is not worth it. The full complex would cost 1000 yen. The pagoda is certainly a sight, but it can be seen...More

This temple is near the main railway station and is about a 15 minute walk. It is charming and easily seen from the street. A nice place.

Toji-in Temple is maybe not as famous as Kinkakuji or Kiyomizudera. But in my opinion it is even more charming. As I visited in the morning, there are few tourists and I enjoyed the serenity of garden in a fresh air.
