This off-the-beaten-path street is replete with bars and snacks urging a languid meander. Feels a bit removed from the bustle of Kiyomizu-michi(清水道) .

The entire street is lined up with japanese cherry trees. If you go to Pontocho, it makes a very nice walk to and from Pontocho.

Visited in end March when Cherry Blossom was in full bloom. Absolutely beautiful but pretty crowded at certain parts. A must visit esp. during cherry blossom season.

We spent an hour walking along this narrow lane with a steam running through the middle of it and cheery blossom in full swing everywhere. What a sight I will never forget.

Loved staying near this area. Wander up and down the quaint narrow streets, parallel to each other and be tempted to stop at a variety of bars and restaurants. There is a canal on one side and a river on the other with 3 long...More

Pontocho
Though small by comparison, Pontocho is one of Kyoto's
most spirited and memorable neighborhoods. A narrow
street straddling the Kamogawa River, it is Kyoto's
busiest nightlife spot. When darkness falls,
Pontocho's many signs and lanterns bolt to life,
making the area glow with invitations to passers-by to
come inside and pull up a chair. Its restaurants and
bars sprawl onto the riverbank, providing a friendly
