Compared to the photos of other travelers here, ours won't look like much, as we were just there in January 2019, so much of the plant life was dead. However, Kodai-ji is quite possibly my favorite stop in Kyoto this trip. Serene and peaceful, the...More

There are lots of beautiful temples and gardens in Kyoto and it's possible to get a headache trying to figure out the best ones. This one has a central location and beautiful views. If possible, visit during autumn illuminations in Late November and early December....More

Got here by a chance. During end of November it was extremely crowded. The LED performance was fantastic, should go here both in the morning and in the evening.

Although, I've visited before, during my last trip, I was able to visit during their Night Illumination or Illuminage, which starts after sunset daily during Spring (mid-March to May), Summer (August), and Autumn (October to early December). In this way, you really get to see...More

I'm so glad we went here. After exploring the Hirashiyama district, this was a oasis of peace. You had to pay an entrance fee, we went to the gardens but didi not go to the museum anymore. The gardens itself was really relaxing

A samurari and military nobility leader was known as a Shogun and this was his Palace in Kyoto. A walk along verandas with 'nightingale' chimes sounding as you step, leads you through the various waiting rooms, audience room and finally the Shogun's private quarters. Each...More

Not a huge place but very serene and calm. Went there at night for their night autumn show. The show wasn't impressive but worth a watch as its very calming. But the lake was surprisingly good. Manage to take some very good photos of the...More
