The memorial park is actually easy to overlook as it is so small and almost under the flyovers above. However, this memorial has tremendous meaning for the residents of Kobe and I believe it is worth visiting, especially as one can also visit the Maritime...More

When you enter the Meriken Park in Kobe harbour ,one of the first things you will note is an open air Kobe earthquake memorial park. The park has various information on the earthquake. To me the highlight was an audio-video presentation of the earthquake and...More

A solemn memorial to the earthquake tragedy in January 1995 which claimed more than 6,000 lives. This memorial is truly a memorial to the resilience of the citizens in an earthquake-prone country. Perfect location by the harborfront with superb view all round.

We walked through this area last year and somehow missed this section that was preserved as a reminder of how damaging earthquakes can be. This time, we purposely looked for the Memorial Park. It is a small area and can easily be overlooked if rushing...More

It is the best park that will bring comfort to your mind on this trip. The memory of the Kobe earthquake makes one part of the heart sad. However, this memorial park seems to be healing its wounds and making a fresh start.

We came across this by chance when we were walking around the park. There was a good video giving information and history of the earthquake.

Motomachi JR station is probably best coming from Osaka. It's the station after Sannomiya. The walk to the park is about 400m, think. Maybe 500 m. Hope that helps.
