Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the station that connects JR Shinkansen (bullet) trains and the JR Railway (local) network.

Well-designed, easy access to the tracks and amenities. Washrooms are plentiful, wait is reasonable.

Easy access to JR Hakata City shopping complex, including Amu Plaza and Hakata Hankyu Department Store.

Easy to get lost, easy to find your trains, easy to spend money and easy to get something to eat and drink.

The station is a city unto itself.

JR Hakata City (I prefer to call it a city than a station) is really big. It serves as a station for their subway, JR and Shinkansen. Spanning many floor including spider-webbed basements, it has department stores such as KITTE, Uniqlo, Hankyu, AMU Plaza and AMU EST and many more restaurants, cafes and eateries that we could not finish exploring even up to the last day. I bet one could stay here for a full one week and may not finish trying out at all the eateries here, not forgetting the Hakata Bus Terminal is just next to it with eateries, too. :)

All under one roof just like other main stations around Japan. But I like this one that it is not too big and quite easy to navigate.

This is the main train station located in Hakatq of Fukuoka. It is linked to subways and JR trains to different parts of Japan. There are also many shops and eateries in the station and vicinity. If you don’t have much time to spend in Hakatq, you can just spend time here for your shopping and dining needs.

I would use the word, the heart of Kyushu Train transportation, as most train must go and come here, no matter where you decide to go, either to Kagoshima, Beppu, Nagasaki, Mojiko, Osaka ... just name it, is all origin from here...

So if you plan to move around Kyushu, to stay near by the Hakata Station is definitely a PLUS +++ compare to Tenjin.

Just do some math, even though Tenjin to Hakata is just 3 stops , but the minimum fare single journey is 210 yen, so if you multiply by the days needed to travel, it come to a sum of few thousand, and for family of 4 like mine, it just worth to get one to stay near Hakata Station.

Our hotel was the Hotel Clio Court which is right next to the Hakata station. Hakata station is clean and bright. Great place to buy omiyage or to pick up a quick snack. Right now the outside is decorated for Christmas.

This is a great station and a major transportation hub in Kyushu. There is a large shopping district on the lower levels and it is located directly next to the bus depot. In the fall/winter there is some great Christmas light displays and the whole area feels very festive.

I didn't enjoy it at all. The station is much too small for the number of travellers it has to deal with despite international travel only just reopened. The subsidies to local travellers means that weekends the station is overfull. Ständig in line for validation of the JR pass took well over one hour. I spent three days for various reasons at the station and coin lockers had no vacancies unless you wanted one for a lady's handbag. Be prepared to drag your suitcase for your entire stay in or around the Station. Kyushu in general it is difficult to find a hotel vacancy at the weekend. It might have something to do with my time of travel, mid To end of November.
