The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Ginza / Tokyo Nihonbashi
Ginza is famous for being a trendy hotspot, but it's also a downtown area with shops that were founded over a hundred years ago. Department stores and luxury boutiques line the route from Nihonbashi to Ginza. It's a long established tradition to shop and stroll while the road is closed to traffic. Luxury hotels, world class cuisine from talented chefs, and a collection of glitzy clubs will make this area popular with anyone looking for a night out.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had been here before just out of interest and returned to this iconic store that goes back to1881 where it started as a watch and jewelry store by K Hattori. Today it is famous for expensive watches , jewelry, chocolates, porcelain and hand bags.Today it sits at the heart of Ginza on Ginza Dori, with its famous clock tower rebuilt in 1932. I poked my head in and then out for the obvious reason but it is worth a look to see an interesting building and real classy shopping--if that is your desire and capability.

This department store is in an iconic building at the main intersection of the Ginza district. The store has an amazing range of products. The section with arts and traditional crafts is amazing with some prices ranging into the equivalent of tens of thousands -- or even hundreds of thousands -- of US Dollars.
It's worth a bit of your time to visit and see the incredible range of goods on offer.
Hope this information helps you.

I did a lot of window shopping on the 1st floor which has all the watches (IWC, Credor, Grand Seiko, ETC) and none of the retail staff were overbearingly trying to make a sale or hovering over your shoulders which I like in a retail experience.
I bought a Grand Seiko in the store and it was a very pleasant experience as they sit you down to go over the warranties, certificates, QC inspections with you.

Your purchases also get you 2% in store credit that you can use the following day for accessories/clothing on the other floors which is pretty cool.

I’m displeased with a simple service that I requested. I wanted to change the strap on a titanium watch, and told the watchmaker that I was sensitive to scratches, so please use protective tape on the lugs during installation. I translated my request using Google translate and he agreed with two thumbs up.

I get my watch back and it has gained exactly the kind of dent on the underside of the lug that protective tape would have prevented.

There was either a misunderstanding or he lied. I assume it was the former but he shouldn’t have responded with a confident double thumbs up. Now I have a ding on the case of a $20k+ watch that should have been prevented with 5 minutes of taping.

Very disappointed.

A very elegant building with a tremendous lot of history. For instance it served as the US forces HQ shortly after the war. But now it is a high-end department store, meaning the prices are far above average. The then again the quality of the products they sell is exceptional. It’s not a really huge department store but it sure is one to visit just to see all that luxury.
On top of the building is the famous Seiko clock which can be heart all over the Ginza area when it strikes. The building itself is an icon for the Ginza area since it is one of the fever few buildings which survived the war. Definitely worthwhile a visit.

WAKO department store is in an iconic building at the main intersection in the 4 Chome Ginza district. This store has tea room in the annex building that seems to be the place to go for afternoon tea for the well heeled locals.

We stumbled into this quint tea room and enjoyed a lovely tea with very good fresh cream cakes and excellent tea and coffee. We were the only foreigners and the waiting staff obliged with passable Japanese. The service was very prim and proper Japanese style. We tried a selection of cakes in their afternoon tea set.

A nice place to stop to refuel or just enjoy tea in an iconic Japan meet Western Tea Room in the heart of Ginza.

I took a little wonder inside and have learned that if I want a £30,000 watch then this is the place to go. Ginza plaza opposite is much more interesting with the Nissan and Sony centre.

Wako sits in the heart of Ginza and symbolizes expensive watches, jewellry, chocolates. It was founded in 1881 by Kintao Hattori as a watch retailer. The current clock was installed in 1932 and if you want to see a classy store with very expensive stuff, this is it.
