The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.

    definitely worth a visit!
We were at Ueno park area on a Wed and decided to drop by 1 of the many Museums within the area. Located at the western end and very conspicuous with the Whale-structure outside the bldg. The Museum of Nature and Science is one of Japan's biggest science museums. There were groups of school children following their teachers and we followed them in the q, entrance fee is. 630 Yen for Adult. Being late Autumn we were with warm clothing so we use the coin-locker to keep them, then we can explore with more comfy. The museum is home to tens of thousands of valuable exhibits relating to many aspects, from outer space, prehistoric dinosaurs, Japanese Geography & its ecosystems (weather & technology). The exhibits created around the theme of "coexistence between the human race and nature," help deepen our appreciation of the Earth, life, science and technology. They also encourage people to think about how mankind, the natural world, and science and technology should best relate to each other. Other Exhibits include the preserved remains of Hachiko and the famous pandas, a fragment of the Nantan meteorite that hit China in the 16th century, and much more. One highlight of the museum is Theater 36◯, a 360-degree movie theater in the round but the q was too long so we did not try. There were 3 levels I believed but we did not go to everyone. Still it was very meaningful tour for all of us indeed. We also chilled off at the Food place before leaving the Museum after a good 1.5 hour. Visited the large souvenir shop too. Recommended.

    Earthly!!
I happen to enjoy looking at old pictures of myself because it is fun!! I look at my 5th grade yearbook all the time and I happen to look like myself 10 years ago!! I wrote an essay at the end of the year which was about my long soul searching 5 years in elementary school and how I became a changed man!! I am obviously being extra and I believe I was the same for all 5 years!! Why I am going on this rant is because I wrote about being excited for a trip to the Museum of Natural History in NY!! I happen to go there a lot because it is fun but I happen to be in Tokyo at the moment and I saw there was a replica here!! I went today and it was very similar but they had seismographs and clocks and also a lot of taxidermy!! I am a big fan of fake animals and I think if I got a bull head in my apartment or a fake gorilla people wouldn’t wonder why I am still single!! It was all very good and it was cheap to get in!!

Well worth a visit, the kids will love it.
A fantastic museum that will entertain kids of all ages. The museum's collection comprises of objects relating to technology, biology, science, botany, geology and engineering. The museum is quite large with multiple rooms on each level,we spent over two hours there but could easily stayed longer. The taxidermy section is amazing, featuring animals collected worldwide.

First of all, the place is huge. You could easily spend a day here if you wanted. The exhibits were really well laid out, telling a story, teaching pretty advanced concepts, and I think their huge 'tree of life' is probably the best exhibit I've seen in any museum, ever! The museum does seem to be largely aimed at school children rather than tourists, which is totally fair enough, but yeah do be prepared for big crowds of noisy children. Finding food is also challenging, there aren't enough places to eat within the museum so be prepared to leave and go for a bit of a walk if you get hungry.

Some parts of the museum were not working and thus not open to the public, but even so the museum is so huge which it would take 3 days to see everything. Not everything Is in one building, there is another. The history of ancient humans, dinosaur bones, things related to space... a lot of stuff. It is near a nice park as well.

It is a 15-minute walk from Ueno Station. The museum is run by the government, so prices are cheap.
I went on a Sunday, so it was crowded. People with their children, some were pushing baby strollers. Some people took pictures in front of the whale exhibit in front of the museum entrance. The building looks old, but the interior was modern. The highlight was the Tyrannosaurus exhibit. It was a very interesting display. You can spend a whole day at here.
I could only stay for an hour or two because I had other things to do, but I would love to go back. This place makes me feel like a kid again.

The museum is split into 2 sections, The Global Gallery and the Japan Gallery. You could easily spend the whole day here. An abundance of interesting exhibits,
the dinosaurs are very popular with kids. The Theater36o is very impressive.
630 yen entrance fee is great value.

Don't be fooled by the old entrance building. There are modern adjacent buildings with many floors of exhibitions and interest. You can spend an entire day here. It's got the same vibe of similar museums in big cities and it's perfect for a rainy of a hot day.

The National Museum of Nature and Science is made up of two buildings, the Japan Gallery and the Global Gallery. The Japan Gallery, located at the front, was built in 1931 in the Neo-Renaissance style, with an open atrium in the center and a dome-shaped ceiling. The white walls and stained glass make it look like a church overseas.

Behind it is the Global Gallery. Inside, I was amazed by the stuffed specimens in the Yoshimoto Collection on the third floor. Mr. Yoshimoto, a second-generation Japanese-American born in Hawaii in 1909, is a prominent businessman and a world-famous hunter. The Yoshimoto Collection contains about 400 stuffed specimens of large mammals from around the world, and I was simply amazed at its sheer scale.

Hello, I miss the simulation of how earthquakes affect the different building structures, from the simple Cabin to the Sunshine 60! I was here in 1980/83, it was very revealing. In 2019 I was back in the museum, but I didn't find anything in this direction!
This is a pity because it is no longer possible to imagine how earthquakes affect buildings and what, often simple, measures can be taken to reduce or even prevent structural damage.

This is a huge museum one could spend an entire day in. We did not have that much time so we had to focus on selected areas such as Nature of Japan and fossils found there. The exhibition is presented beautifully and the house itself is a piece of architecture adding to the experience much like the Natural history museum of London. There is a blue whale model here, too, but you can see it outside the museum. We visited mid-October on a weekday and there were no queues to slow us down.
