We walked along here after visiting Semso-ji temple. There was light rain so there weren't too many people around. The cherry blossoms were just beginning to bloom. You can take long walks along the Sumidagawa River with a generous view of Tokyo Skytree. Easily accessible from Asakusa Station.

I visited on April 7th, during the Sumida Park Sakura Festival 2024, which will be held from March 17th to April 7th. This year, the cherry blossoms were late in blooming, but when I visited on April 7th, it felt like they had already passed their peak beauty. On the other hand, the beauty of this place may be due to the overlapping scenery of seagulls and cherry blossoms.

We walked to this park several times as we stayed in Asakusa. Saw locals walking and relaxing. There was some local events. We crossed the bridge over the Sumida river and enjoyed views of cherry blossoms.

SUMIDA PARK

Along the Sumida River on holiday, dog walk, running, cool evenings…
It's a park where everyone can enjoy their own way.
For those who come for sightseeing, it's recommended to buy a ticket office near Azumabashi and take a walk on the water.

I like to come to this park for the view of the Tokyo Skytree at night and to admire the blossoms on hundreds of cherry trees in spring. When the trees aren't in bloom, It also offers a far more peaceful area than nearby overcrowded Asakusa. The park's green space follows both the east and west banks of the Sumida River, connected by the Azuma Bridge. I always stick to the Asakusa (east) side because of its ease of access and the panorama from here.

On my last visit, I was en route to the Imado Shrine and preferred to reach my goal via the scenic river walk. it took about 3 minutes to get to the park from the Ginza line's Asakusa station. I noted people waiting to take a boat cruise and others dining at waterside cafes. The path I followed had few other walkers, most clutching cameras to get the perfect shot of the Sky Tree and other tall buildings at sunset. But this was October. In spring, I have to shuffle along with the myriad other cherry-blossom seekers.

I passed much greenery, including trees and shrubs. A big children's playground had attracted many families. Benches by the river offered perfect places to simply sit and take in the views. The east bank, which I hope to explore on my next visit, includes the Ushijama shrine and a small Japanese garden.

For those visiting the big Senso-ji temple in Asakusa, consider coming here afterwards with a picnic lunch.

It is an extensive narrow park that runs alongside the Sumida River starting at the Azumabashi Bridge. It is a fairly typical Tokyo park that ads a little strip of green You do get a good view of Tokyo Sky Tree from the park close to the river. Access is via Asakusa Station, the Asakusa and Ginza lines.

Sumida Park was our favorite park in Tokyo for viewing of cherry blossoms because it is a riverside park affording beautiful views and interesting buildings across the river. The river cruises leave from a landing at Sumida Park, which adds to the spectacle. A couple of gift shops between Sumida Park and the Senso-ji temple complex had interesting and imaginative souvenirs. We had the unusual opportunity to visit Sumida Park both at the very beginning of the blooming of cherry trees and when they approached full bloom.

I visited on the 1st of April, sakura, cherry blossoms were going to be full bloomed. It's so beautiful. It's very closed to subway station and other attractions in Asakusa area. There are other flowers in the garden. A small playground will also make your kids smile..more and more :) If you like picnic, you may prepare an easy meal or supper and sit besides the river. There are some seats near pier (Tokyo cruise). You'll see Tokyo Sky Tree with sakura blossoms and a cruise.
