The beach was beauitiful, and there is good snorkeling along the cliffs to the southwest. It had rained recently so the water clarity was only about 10 feet.
Water taxi ride from Boca de Tomatlan was fun, but be aware you have to jump from the boat bow onto the beach. In the afternoon the water taxi came by for us to flag down at the promised time (with a small ladder to reboard out of the shallows). I forgot to get the phone number of the service to request earlier pickup.
But Vallarta Adventure Tours has bought the beach club and made it exclusive to their tours, so you have to stay on the lower beach. You cannot rent chairs, buy food or drink, etc. There was only one other non-tour party on the beach (dropped by private boat). The club and water was frequently flooded with 100 person boat load tours.

This is not a review of the beach club. This is a review of going to Majahuitas beach by water taxi. I went solo from Puerto Vallarta. I probably should have just taken the water taxi that leaves from the Playa Los Muertos pier, which I've heard is 380 pesos round trip. I thought I would save a few pesos by taking the southbound bus down the coast highway to Boca de Tomatlán and catching the water taxi from there. Bus is 10 pesos each way, water taxi from Boca to Majahuitas was (I heard) 180 pesos round trip. Turned out to be 240 pesos. If you go to Boca to get the water taxi, expect to be baffled. There is no ticket office, no signage, no posted schedule or fees. Just go to the pier and ask for the next water taxi headed to Yelapa. Eventually a guy will get your money and get you on the boat. Make sure you tell them you're going to Majahuitas. The boat ride over is nice. It probably will make several stops at other little beach places before getting to Majahuitas. Maybe 30 minutes?
The first thing you need to know about Majahuitas beach is that the beach club takes up more than half the beach, leaving the public a small portion. The second thing you need to know is that there is no pier at Majahuitas, so the water taxi is going to get as close to shore as possible, but if you're like me, you're going to get soaked getting off the boat and then again climbing back into the boat. Seal up your phone and anything else you don't want getting wet in a waterproof bag. This is not an adventure for the mobility impaired. When I arrived, there were a couple small yachts anchored offshore with a bunch of guests making use of the beach club, which plays loud music. So your tranquil, isolated getaway? Forget it. The beach club basically owns this beach now.
I will say, however, that once the yachts left, the beach club was empty (maybe 3 in the afternoon), the music was turned off, and I was the only person on the entire beach. Me and this super friendly dog that came to lie down next to me. This was a Monday in high season. Another nice thing about Majahuitas beach is that there is plenty of shade if you want it. The sand is a little rough, sorry to say. Not too bad though. There are no facilities, no food, no water, no nothing (unless you're at the beach club), so bring everything you need with you.

Our boat left late from the Marina to start. Once we arrived, they gave us no Information at all about what they wanted us to do. Apparently, we had assigned tables but didn't know until they tracked us down. Tiny beach area, they had 1 kayak and paddle board for the entire boat and you couldn't go far from the beach in the water. No snorkeling gear. Food was very expensive and service not great. Worst excursion I've ever been on. Couldn't wait for the boat to come get us and take us back to PV. Very loud music all day.

Great tour aboard a 700 ton Galleon. Left about 9:30 a.m. Had a nice breakfast below deck; best coffee. Sailed through the Bay as our “pirates” put on a show. Our server was always checking to see if we needed anything. We spent the afternoon at a secluded beach on the Majahuites Island where chairs and umbrellas were available for all. Drinks, snorkelling, kayaking and a ride on a “banana boat” were all included. The children were well entertained with games and a treasure hunt. Sailing back to the Marina we enjoyed a wonderful lunch of steak and lobster. There were many choices which included stuffed chicken, ribs, tuna steak and about three more options. Overall a trip worth taking especially for the children. Best service we have ever had.

I went past this one many time not knowing it exists.
This time we made a stop and I am glad we did. It was weekdays so only 2 other boats were present.
Beautiful, relaxing, clean. Just loved it.

Remote beach accessible only by boat. The sand does require shoes for the parts away from the beach. It was very fun and lovely place. The walk through the wilderness was exquisite also. They had free banana rides and all. Very fun.

What a beautiful hidden treasure! Majahuitas feels like a lost tropical island, unscathed and nurtured by its few lucky residents. It is maybe an hour south of Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific Ocean, only accessible by boat! My husband and I went for a 2-year wedding anniversary trip just last week(June 1-5, 2004), and would love to go back sometime in the future.
The individual casitas are charming and amazing, obviously built with much love by hand. Ours was the Jungle House--we highly reccomend it!! The view of the ocean was spectacular. We were able to see a couple of the others too, and they are all quite impressive, each with their own charm.
The food is delicious... my favorite was seared snapper one night, and the yummiest caesar salad I've ever had for an appetizer another night! Really tasty shrimp dishes at various times too. We never went hungry... always more than enough food. Fransisco was in charge while we were there... he was awesome! The chefs were extremely talented, and the whole crew just made our experience delightful.
The girls that clean the casitas and straighten the beds surprised us one afternoon with our bed decorated with hibiscus flowers and little red flower petals designing our initials. They were so dear and sweet!
We watched 2 manta rays playing in the ocean every morning while we were there... they were looking for fish, but are apparently harmless to people. What a show though! The snorkeling is good, and the boat rides are exhilirating! Hiking through the jungle makes for a great adventure, and the two labradors on the beach will welcome you with a friendly bark--Coco and Sandy. We took a day trip to Yelapa, and we highly reccomend that too... what a fun day.
Majahuitas is what you make of it... it is perfect for total relaxation and lazing around all afternoon, or if you would rather, you can make it an adventure. Regardless, it is getting away from the everyday life you lead with tv and the phone ringing all the time. It is ideal for couples of course, but I would like to bring a group of friends back sometime, or even a family one day. Kids would have a blast on the beach! There were some jellyfish in the water when we first arrived, but it was due to the rains they had recently had, and they were gone the rest of the week. The ocean views are unforgettable. It does get humid, but that was no problem for us at all... the breezes are enough to cool you off... plus a dip in the water. And brush up on your ping pong skills... there's a table behind the main house where you can play! They have tons of books for a good week's read, and all kinds of board games (even Battleship!) for entertainment if you want it. It is a different way of life that we should all be lucky enough to experience. Hope you get a chance to go sometime! We will be back!!

Having just returned from majahuitas, I would recommend it to anyone who wants a piece of paradise. The hotel has 8 open air casitas on the beach, in the jungle and on the cliffs (sunset house). With only a max of 15 people at anyone time, you get a truly personal service, run by a group of mexicans who are so friendly but not intrusive, they can't do enough for you. The boat ride to the beach from the jetty at boca (the only way to get to the resort) is exhilarating...you can you eat lunch and see wild dolphins swimming past...it is untouched nature and is beautiful. If you get restless you can go a jungle trek not for the couch potato, and have a massage afterwards. The margaritas are excellent.. and the food freshly caught that day is out of this world. So much time, effort and pride is devoted to making your stay memorable.. we were on honey moon but they are great with kids as well and really look after everyone. We found majahuitas on different world.com as did everyone else who we meet whilst we were there. A nice mixture of americans, a couple from london and a few mexicans. If you go in november you can see the whales giving birth in the bay and the turtles on the beaches.

Whales, Wild Dolphins & Snorkeling
Vallarta Adventures V
Beware! This catamaran holds 180 people. I was expecting a catamaran that held 20 people and there would be 9 of us. (Granted, the woman at the front desk on Holland America didn’t know she was misleading me.) There were 137 people on our tour, nine from our cruise ship and 128 from hotels/resorts in Puerta Vallarta (who paid less than we did, of course). Some of us saw one whale tail in the distance. We saw a couple pods of dolphins in the distance (not close to our catamaran). That was it. For a tour that lasted 6.5 hours, we had three hours by Marietas Islands. ONLY ONE HOUR FOR SNORKELING (that is for over 100 people to get off the catamaran, do the whole snorkeling tour, and get back on the catamaran), one hour to go by small boat on a fast rough ride to a secluded beach, and one hour to eat a luncheon buffet (that was good). The snorkeling experience was poorly organized. One leader led over a hundred people a LONG distance to go through an opening in the rocky shore wall to a hidden beach. The water was rough. Had I known the catamaran was going to be there for three hours, I might have had the courage to go to the hidden beach. But being alone, following this huge group of people so far in the rough waters in such a limited time towards the rocky island scared me. (I later learned that a man got kicked by another person snorkeling. And they didn’t see many fish!) So I just hung out near the boat and cried. I saw five fish. The other times I snorkeled (St. John and Cartegena) were “tens.” This trip was a “two.” A man was writing up an incident report about getting kicked, and one thing led to another, and the leader of the snorkeling said I should write one up. He said the cruise ship should have people on smaller boats and they should know about my experience. He hugged me and said he wouldn’t want his mother to have such an experience. The next day when I went to the Shore Excursions Desk on the Holland America Statendam, the woman behind the desk said she was waiting for me, she knew all about it, she had a copy of my incident report, and that I should have this and that. She was cold, prepared to defend her position, and did not have one ounce of compassion, empathy, or concern. She said there would be no compensation whatsoever. I would NEVER recommend this tour.

We hired a private boat with a driver from Boca de Tomatlan to take us out on the water for an afternoon. We arranged for him to meet us at the Ocean Grill Restaurant at 1pm. His rate for 4 hours was $185 USD for up to 10 people. The lancha was clean and had three or four benches in it and a canopy for shade.
We went snorkelling at Majahuitas with the snorkel gear provided by our boat driver. At the time, the only other people that were snorkelling were two kids (whose parents watched from a nearby speed boat). There are quite a few colorful fish here (many brightly colored black and orange fish). One of the kids was feeding the fish cheesies and we were surrounded by fish during this time. I only gave this 4 stars because the snorkelling area is relatively small and it only takes about 20 minutes to see everything and want to move on (not quite as interesting as snorkelling on the Mayan Riviera or in Hawaii).
We also fished along the way, visited Yelapa (the beach) and walked up to the waterfall (very short stroll) and our driver and his 11 year old son accompanied us. Our driver Sergio could speak some english. We considered stopping in Quimixto and hiking up to that waterfall but we were told it was a 40 min hike one way. So instead, because we were short on time we went to Las Animas Beach and sat at a beach restaurant, had some snacks and drinks and went swimming.
If we had taken one of the organised tours it would have cost us $100 each for the five of us. We would not have been able to choose our on schedule and there would have been many more people. So I highly recommend going down to the marina in Boca de Tomatlan to find a boat and driver for a day trip. There are also water taxis available here (Yelapa and Quimixto).

I've read reviews about there being jelly fish larvae in the water. We will be there in March - do we need to worry about getting stung?

So wondering ... if you had to make a choice of snorkelling Los Arcos or Majhuitas ... which would you go with?
Written 21 August 2017
I scuba dived in Los Arcos and Yelapa, Los Arcos was by far the best place. Majahuitas seems to be a calmer version of Yelapa, but I might be wrong.

What tour company did you use for the Majahuitas trip. We have read very different types of reviews and were hoping to snorkel more than 20 min and also to use a kayak.
Written 28 January 2016
We went with Valletta adventures. The boat ride from Pv was about an hour, then you spend most of the morning and through lunch snorkeling and if the weather and sea cooperate you can swim into the secret beach. They had kayaks and stand up paddle birds on the boat. They also have a yummy lunch and open bar and have music and dancing on the way back. It's super fun, but a long day on a boat. They have two places in Pv they pick up so depending on where your staying you're looking at 8-3. Other than the snorkeling etc you're on the boat. Another option, You can take the bus to punta mita and hire a panga (small boat, like a skiff) to buzz you over as it's super close, but not close enough to swim from the beach for 15-25 US dollars per person, but I'd set the expectation of time before you leave so everyone knows what they're getting. Some do and some don't have snorkel equipment. You can also rent kayaks and stand up paddle boards on the beach. But I think it's too far to try to kayak too from the shore. Have a great time either way!!!
