A fascinating Abbey ruin built nearly a thousand years ago. Its fascinating to walk around with plenty of information explaining what each part once was. Although a ruin you get the presence of something that was once very majestic. If you are in Kilwinning or in the area it is well worth a visit.

I hadn't been to Kilwinning before, but am pleased to have got a quick but pleasant walk around the abbey ruins in the November sunshine. Worth a visit if you are in the area and interested in local history.

I was born in Kilwinning and a member the Abbey Church on a Sunday they would ring the bell for the church service. When I was with Scouts we pitched a tent and spent the hnight. It is a heritage centre that is open Fri. Sat. and Sunday on the summer. They will give you the history of Kilwinning it... More

The Abbey has special memories. Aside from its great history and story, I sprinkled some of my dad's ashes here, who was also from Kilwinning. This seemed appropriate given its age, but also close proximity to Mother Lodge. Heritage centre volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. Cafes and shops nearby.

Amazing historic site in the centre of Kilwinning, very easy to find, in the pedestrian zone. The site is full of history, the abbey and the tower. Very interesting the masonic history connected to the site. I have been there in a sunny October day and it was simply amazing to spend a couple of hours through the ruins. Awesome

Very old site, full of history. The establishment of the first stone mason guilds - with an interesting masonic approach!

The volunteers at the heritage centre were helpful and knowledgable, supervising the climb to the top of the tower and pointing out features of interest in the surrounding country, as well as on the different levels within the tower. A guide to the Kilwinning Abbey ruins is available, invaluable in understanding the remains and the original structure. Kilwinning Masonic Lodge... More

Great views at the top of this tower! Worth all 143 steps! Very knowledgable volunteers and I loved the informative Eglington Castle history too. See the ruins of the Abbey too.

Spent a pleasant couple of hours at the Kilwinning Abbey Tower Heritage Centre. Lots of interesting artefacts, pictures, models and information on the local area. There is a spiral staircase to the top of the tower where you can get great views across North Ayrshire , the west coast and the Isle of Arran. Only downside is the limited opening... More
