Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Early evening Thursday 22nd July we had just been to Solomos Square where this Church is located near. We were fortunate that it was open when we were there.
From the outside, the most noticeable features is the the bell tower, with the three bells at the top and one below them.
It was constructed in 1560 and it's first priest was a monk named Dionysius, who later became a saint.
The oldest Venetian building in square and the only that survived the severe earthquake and fire of 1953.
The inside is like there are almost like two halves to the Church. One end is plain and dreary while the other is so ornate and lavish. T
The screen (reredos) at the rear of the Church is so lavish it takes up the entire end of the Church from wall to wall and floor to ceiling. It is covered with large arched gilded carved frames enclosing paintings of religious scenes and people and many icons.
Numerous icons and other religious regalia are populated around the front of the Church. There are mighty chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
The back of the Church has plainly painted walls with a load of chairs clumped about the place.

I often pass this little church when I visit Zante Town with our children.
When we passed it last June, the door was open and people were allowed to go in. It's the first time I've ever seen that and had to go in for a look. What a beautiful church it is on the inside. I loved it.

Nice place to stop by is you are visiting, there was a nice lady in there and we lit a candle, made a donation and had a brief stop.

I would never leave a bad review for a church not only because I am a devoted Christian Orthodox myself but also out of respect. However, this time I have to do it. The caretakers of the church- both the lady and the man- are absolutely horrible. The way they look at the people visiting the church-especially the foreigners-is awful. What bothered me a lot was not only their comments and actions while we were there but also their looks when we were praying in front of the holy icons. I do not know if someone working for the Metropolis will read this but please take action. I have been in Zante multiple times and we face this every single time we visit this church. They are acting like we are trespassing their own private property. It’s not your church, it’s God’s.

Lovely old church, with so much history. Beautiful location overlooking the sea at the edge of the town.

Zakynthos is not a city that offers you many things to visit.
An island fantastic for natural attractions, but little highlights art and history.
This is an interesting church, in a beautiful location in Solomos Square, at the end of the harbor and opposite the pier.
Very beautiful and characteristic interior, with icons of the Byzantine style Orthodox cult.
Definitely worth visiting.

The church is more beautiful from the outside than from the inside. An old woman is waiting there and presses a candle into your hand. You are asked to donate, of course. "No photo!" echoes shrilly after the donation. You don't have to do that...

In a very good location the Church of St. Nicholas has been in history since 1600 while there was also a pastor St. Dionysius!

Free entry but photos prohibited inside. Close to the east Solomos Square (a little mineral) where the Byzantine museum is also located, more interesting than this church.
