Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Entertainment comes before fascination at this location.
The entertainment: Watching people trying to figure out where the petroglyphs are! Good luck seeing them from the boardwalk area nearest the parking lot. And good luck seeing them even if you walk to the boardwalk much closer to the cliff. Listen carefully to the people around you; someone will spot them! Or just look at the photo I'm attaching to this review.
The fascination: Finally seeing these cliffside carvings and realizing they were put there by members of the Fremont Culture, which lived here from about 300 A.D. to about 1300 A.D.
TIP:
* If you're a photographer, bring a telephoto lens and a tripod. If you're a birdwatcher, bring your binoculars.

Check out the Petroglyphs at Capitol Reef National Park and see why they are so special. You will need binoculars or a high powered zoom lens to get the actual pictures you want to see. There are families on the walls as well as designs they created determining their daily activities and journeys. This is a must see and do.

If you have a love for Native American Indian history you will enjoy this stop.
There are several to look at. Some have several in one section as if a story is being told. Some just have one or two. A lot of goat figures but that made sense as the goat was very important to the Native American.
There is even one spot where a person inscribed his name in 1901.
The boardwalk was easy to walk on and there are places to sit.

The petroglyphs are off off highway 24. There is a parking area and then a boardwalk to view the petroglyphs on the rock mountain. The petroglyphs are not close to the boardwalk and that was wise of the National Park, so people don't damage. If you have binoculars you can view many more of them vs with just your eyes. There is a ranger talk in the morning and the ranger did have wonderful strong binoculars to use. There is also a wooden boardwalk to view other petroglyphs and you should walk both areas.

The Petroglyphs cover a wide area of rock face. Unfortunately a slab of the rock has fallen away, and before they were protected some idiots added grafiti. But there are a good number of persons and animals still intact. Definitely take binoculars to see them all and in detail. Start with the people which are the most obvious from the viewing location, then look to the left and scan across two more sections with animals.

This ancient story is located a short distance along a boardwalk from the parking lot off Highway 24. There is excellent signage available explaining the history of the “Fremont” people and their markings.
Worth stopping for to see markings dating from between 300 – 1300 A.D.

This is noted on the park map as Petroglyph Panel. You really have to be eagle-eyed and pay attention, or put some research into where to look on the rocks to truly see all the various petroglyphs. We were fortunate to be walking on the boardwalk very near a group of women who were exceptional at spotting them, otherwise we would have missed quite a few. This is an easy walk along the boardwalk.

This is a short stop along the main road through the park. There is a boardwalk to the viewing platform and another boardwalk to more petroglyphs. We continued on the boardwalk to the right simply because the trees were lovely with their fall colors. We were delighted to find more petroglyphs along the way.

Just a quick stop off of the highway to see a bit of Native American history/culture. It is a very short walk on a boardwalk. If you have binoculars, bring them for looking higher on the cliff. This well worth a quick stop.

Located just off the highway down the road from the visitors centre. Parking available. The Petroglyphs are in two areas: 1. on the right of the carpark you follow a (flat) timber board walkway and the images are at the end. 2. the others are to the left of the carpark, again a short walk along a board walkway and the images are on the cliff face. These not quite as easy to spot (fixed binocular type devices are there to help you see them - or maybe take your own). Both areas area very accessible.
