We did the rim drive on a hot day. Great views. we were also having the AC full blast, which works one way (downhill) and make sure you pick the direction right.

we had a fantastic day driving the rim, we were told by our hotel to get in early as the afternoon winds bring in the smoke and boy were they accurate. You could barely see the water in the afternoon. But was it worth being...More

The rim drive is great, but know that you will not see much in the afternoon during fire season. The smoke often fills the cauldron in the afternoons.

We camped in the park's campground. We drove the rim Drive almost every day. (We stayed 4 days.) The evening drives yielded lots of wildlife. One morning I even saw a black bear cross there road. Sunsets viewed from the Watchman Overlook, were spectacular!

Experience the lake from all directions. Did the West Rim drive in a 33 ft motorhome. No problems. RV parking area at Rim Village.

Everything we saw before arriving said you could do the rim drive in an hour, or maybe as long as three. TAKE YOUR TIME. We stopped at almost all the available pull out and did two short hikes and it took us six hours. But...More

Drove about half-way around Crater Lake on Rim Drive. Beautiful. The view wasn't perfect due to a slight haze from the fires that were still burning (miles away).

The suggested time to do this or complete this is 2-3 hours. That is really subject to how much time you will spend on each lookout and how many stops you make or how many photos you will shoot. There are actually bikers here too....More

The drive around the rim is an easy drive. You enter and exit at the same spot so pick a direction when you enter and drive. Can see the lake from almost the whole journey around.

We experienced a lot of smoke so we fully could not experience all the views and vistas that the Rim Drive offers...on a clear day, stop frequent and often and experience it fully!

The whole place is elevated,so if you have issues with heights this might not work. Just driving to Crater Lake will put you on big elevation changes. You will be exposed to various height changes.

The quickest way to get an objective answer to the air quality question is, imo, to check the three web cams on the Crater Lake National Park website by the NPS (National Park Services). On some days you get a few miles of... More
