I found this trail to be an easy walk along some very interesting rock formations. I think it is worthwhile to spend the time to see these unique rock formations and enjoy the outdoors.

The Pinnacles are volcanic chimney-type formations that were created when the volcano that formed Crater Lake erupted. They are interesting to look at, but you can see them from the parking lot (which itself is 7 miles from the main trail). There's another vantage point...More

You will not find this hidden gem on some of the promotional material, but it is only 5-6 miles down a turn-off on the Rim Road that we highly recommend. The "pinnacles" are actually "fumeroles" from the venting magma chamber after Mt. Mazama blew. The...More

Easy, flat, wide trail for anyone to see these interesting volcanic features. The drive in is beautiful and has many other sites to stop and see along the way.

The Pinnacles are an incredibly cool sight! They are a little ways away from the Rim Drive and other Crater Lake sights, but definitely worth the short detour. The hike is super easy with great views and photo opportunities.

Walk at least half way down the trail and you get a great view of both ends of the pinnacles. The stop in front of the sign offers a nice view of the north end.

Make sure you walk the whole are , many people do not do it. They just stay where they park and do not walk the extra 500 feet.

Do go to the Crater Lake website for needed info on entry cost, open dates & hours, location, etc. There is more than one entrance, based on the direction from which you are traveling. Do know that Crater Lake is not open... More
