If the weather is fine, Highway 190 through the Panamint Mountains is an absolutely magnificent route. If the weather is not fine, DO NOT be tempted!

From Furnace Creek it is about a 60 mile drive along highway 190. The trip itself has beautiful scenery all along the way. You go from a couple hundred feet below sea level to 5000 feet above. You ca make a food, gas, supplies & souvenirs at the little town of Stovepipe Wells. We ended at "Father Crowley's View" atop... More

Interesting layers of color envelope the mountains and make for a picturesque landscape. Easy drive and must see attraction.

Coming into Death Valley from the west side you go through Trona and the Panamint Valley and Panamint Mountains. There are some spectacular views as you come down into the valley and as you climb the mountains to get over to Death Valley the patterns in the rocks. You can often see military aircraft zooming overhead as this is close... More

I came up from Ridgecrest. The Road is well maintained and is an easy drive, except for one 6-mile section that recently washed out. It is graded but quite rough. Proceed slowly, to control dust, and look for areas where there are fewer tracks for smoother travel. It was late May and temperatures were still tolerable. Do bring water and... More

The drive into Panamint Valley is excellent and in superb condition. Very windy and a motorcycle dream road. Just before Panamint Valley there is a lookout at about 4000' that you could access very carefully in an SUV. The view is incredible. You can see the whole Panamint Valley from there and it's breathtaking. Great side trip. Bring water and... More

Spectacular views / and if you're lucky there will be fighter jets flying overhead. Make sure that you stop at Father Crowley Overlook too --- that's where they drop into Rainbow Canyon and do some Topgun moves. Great photo ops.

Went up to see the end of the "Super Bloom" and found some lovely specimens, but not many. Started at 70 degrees and ended up at 30 degrees and 2 inches of slushy snow, but the views are beautiful.

Stunning views, the drive is incredible through these very high desert mountains. Seeing combat aircraft a few hundred feet off the deck was very cool and surprising.
