The information that you can get inside the visitor center is great. Their displays are detailed, and you can even talk with a park ranger and go for a short hike with one if you're there at the right time.
This is the place to stop and pick up maps and check out the various things you can see and do at Denali. They have a couple of movies and some exhibits that you can check out.

Denali Visitor Center is your typical national park center where you can see a few exhibits, speak with the park rangers regarding programs, bear sightings, camping, hiking trails, etc. The center is actually a bit on the small side. After an all day Tundra Wilderness...More
DH and I enjoyed visiting here and we actually came two different days. Not as large as I would have expected considering how large and varied Denali is ... but it is nice. We mostly enjoyed wandering the trails around the visitor center ... probably...More
The visitors center is a must when you go to Denili National Park. We really enjoyed the video's and history of the park. There are park rangers to answer all your questions and help you plan your visit. We also enjoyed the lifelike animal sculptures.
One of the best visitor centers we have visited, and we've been in most all the western parks' visitor centers! Be sure to allow enough time to see it all. There are trails leading from the center, but we didn't take them.
The Denali Visitor Center was a nice surprise. Be sure to visit the exhibits in the lower level. It's full of informative displays about the animals and other aspects of the park. It's great for kids, too! We ate our lunch on the Visitor Center...More

Isn't this frustrating? Getting information on the McKinley Chalet is very difficult. Even the cruise line we booked our visit with could not tell us anything. I think you will get the most reliable info from the park service site were there is a phone no., calendar, tours and dates available. I googled Denali Park
service. This site would not let me copy and paste the site address. It looks like the park is open til 2nd week in Sept. There is also a site for the McKinley Chalet. I'd call them and get everything in writing if you are dealing with a cruise line. Good luck
