Use the Belly River Trail to access some of the most spectacular and least crowded backcountry in Glacier National Park. Start at the parking lot on the US side of the Chief Mountain border crossing. This was the final landmark before hiking out of the park. We had just completed our third camp at Lake Elizabeth and were hiking out. This Ranger's Station was the grandest goodbye we could ask for. The station lays right on the trail and is in the middle of a huge grass field, and mountains surround everything. The ranger's horses... More

We just "happened" to take the turn-off for the campground, in wanting to get some photographs of the River and the mountains. Met some friendly people setting up camp and got to take some lovely photos that we would not have been able to had we stayed on the main road.
