A Misnomer
Apr 2021
It is what it is. But it's NOT a Visitor Center. I sure wish they'd rename the place to reflect its real function. What it is is an older gift shop. Been around for a very long time. Really doesn't have much as an attraction. Next time probably won't go in.

Not a Visitor Center - Just a Gift Shop with Displays
Mar 2020
On the National Park brochure they call this a Visitor Center. I love National Park Visitor Centers. They have videos, lots of displays and usually a 3-D map. Not here. This is not really a Visitor Center at all. It'sostly a touristy gift shop with some displays of life on the Rim before the Canyon was a National Park. Interesting displays. Uninteresting gift shop.Same stuff as the other gift shops in the area.

Unexpected
Apr 2019 • Solo
This is a small visitor center with useful items for sale I was looking for as well as some surprises I decided I had to have! Sales clerks were very helpful. Being slightly away from the big parking lot and the Bright Angel Lodge, it seemed to avoid the press of too many people but it was April and I found it on foot while walking the rim trail.

Nice Shop
Feb 2019 • Couples
Decent gift shop with some great history in a historic building. Worth a stop in to have a look and maybe a souvenir.

Interesting little gift shop
Dec 2018 • Family
Stopped in to take a break from hiking the south rim and warm up. Nice little gift shop with a range of items. The wife found plenty to look at, luckily didn't buy much.

Visitor centre with information desk, bookshop, museum shop and exhibits area
May 2018
Verkamp's Visitor Centre is located in one of the oldest buildings in Grand Canyon. It is walking distance on east side of El Tovar Hotel and Hopi House. It has an information desk, bookstore and museum shop and exhibits Grand Canyon community and pioneer history. If you have time and really interested in history year wise, you should spend more time here. We spend around 15 minutes here just to have what this place meant for.

Nice small museum & shop
Dec 2018 • Couples
This Visitor Center is separate and different than the National Park VC. This one is next to the El Tovar hotel.

It’s a small room that is half historic museum and half gift shop. Staff was very friendly and talkative.

One of several gift shop/historic exhibit buildings
Apr 2018 • Family
Unfortunately, I didn't have time to explore the historic exhibits at this building which, like many other buildings in the Village, combines a gift shop with some history. Compared with some of the other stores in Grand Canyon Village, the presentation in this shop is relatively spare. There are some nice things, but there are better shopping experiences at places like the Hopi building. The El Tovar gift shops, while small, have a nice selection of jewelry, shirts, and other goods at prices that are similar to other shops in the Village. It does seem like every shop has slightly different items, so it's worth stopping at different stores.

Quaint gift shop with history
Jul 2018 • Family
The building is well-maintained, and the gift shop does have quite a selection of unique souvenirs, but for me, the star of this place is Tom. Tom is an employee who went out of his way to help us. Our kids had completed the Grand Canyon Junior Ranger program, but they were tired and didn't really want to get out of the car. I went into Verkamp's to turn in their books and get their patches. When Tom heard that they were in the car, he insisted on coming out to the car to swear them in as Junior Rangers and personally hand them their badges. He really went out of his way to make them feel special.

Much more than another gift shop !
Feb 2018 • Couples
A well preserved historic building, with a well prepared and presented museum.
Allow time to study the exhibits. The gift selection is varied, different than in the
many Park Service gift shops that feature the same items.
