Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was really looking forward to this museum and very very disappointed as many of the exhibits were covered possibly due to the pandemic. The reason to go to this museum has to do with its position during sunset. I highly advise coming to this point during that time of day.

Although the building is open and the gift shop is open, all of the exhibits are covered in thick black plastic for COVID. No geologic information is able to be seen by visitors.

There are several reasons why visitors to Grand Canyon National Park schedule plenty of time to visit Yavapai Point, not the least of which are the spectacular and breath-taking views. But another feature is the Yavapai Geology Museum, which is often referred to as Yavapai Observation Station. Originally built in the late 1920s and remodeled and rededicated in 2007, it displays educational exhibits that detail the history of the Grand Canyon, its geological wonders and how it was formed over a period of about 17 million years. Constructed of natural stone, the museum sits high atop Yavapai Point. Besides featuring hands-on exhibits and a wealth of historical information, the front of the building is wrapped with windows that reward visitors with incredibly amazing views across the canyon. Museum exhibits explain the deposition of the rock layers, the uplift of the Colorado Plateau and the carving of the Grand Canyon. Displays include beautifully crafted Native American artwork, three-dimensional models, powerful photographs and interpretative panels which allow visitors to see and understand the complicated geologic story of the area. A large topographical relief model in the front room mimics the canyon view in remarkable detail. The building was erected on a site specifically selected by a team of geologists for the express purpose of observing and understanding Grand Canyon geology.

Every stopping point on the rim is fantastic. The museum is no exception. We really enjoyed the model of the Grand Canyon as it helped grasp the magnitude of what we were seeing. The museum is one of many shuttle stops making it very accessible for all ages and disabled. The cool air in the museum was a relief from the heat and the staff was very friendly and full of information readily shared.

This museum is a compact but very informative, conveniently located near Yavapi point. Some of the ranger talks start at this museum, so check the schedule if you plan to visit the museum.

Walking the rim to get different perspectives on the canyon is way to appreciate geology if you’re unable to go down into it. Helpful signs along the way shed some light but a cohesive geologic display like this perched right on the edge drives home what an amazing window into planetary history the Grand Canyon truly is. They also sell interesting gifts.

The Geology Museum in Yavapai is not a big one, yet it's very interesting. The Museum presents in an interesting and concise way the geology of the Grand Canyon and its history. Also on a special board called "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants", the museum pays homage to the "early pioneers geologists who laid the foundation of knowledge that present-day geologists build on".

Having just completed a tour of the Colorado Plateau National Parks, we visited most of the geology related museums or talked to local park rangers about the geology. This museum was full of great information that was really accessible to all ages. Not a lot of geo-jargon, but enough to make it instructional and informative. The viewing area is better than at the visitor center. The best part was that it wasn’t all that busy compared to the visitor center. If you have limited time and are on a whirlwind tour of the GC, add this to your stop.

We stopped here (after picking up sandwiches) to check out the geology museum - which is very informative.

The museum helps to understand how the Grand Canyon was formed (not just the Colorado River) and was very cool.

We then took our sandwiches to a few benches nearby which overlooked the Grand Canyon South rim.

What an incredible way to eat lunch !
