- Donna BSapphire, North Carolina97 contributionsGreat American landmarkSpectacular scenery everywhere you look. A must-see National Park. I would have rated it 4 1/2 if I could because the huge Visitor Center was closed. Nobody home. Forget getting info or help… they’re not available. Apparently they are training new park rangers. This came as the park was full of people who came for the eclipse. Only the government would make a stupid decision like that. Come anyway.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 October 2023
- Keith518Thompson, Connecticut113 contributionsAwe InspiringI am 67 and have wanted to visit the Grand Canyon for most of my life. Of course I had seen countless photos and videos of it so I thought I knew what to expect. But when we came to the first lookout area and the Canyon came into view... OH MY GOD! You can't prepare yourself for the the awe and magnificence of seeing it in person. It's so big, so high, so wide, so amazing.... just breathtaking. So glad I finally got to experience this wonder.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 October 2023
- GuruprasadSingapore, Singapore147 contributionsMust see once! You will have to see it once I guess, what with it being a natural wonder. Once inside the park (as it’s also called), you have three shuttles, red, blue and orange. You will want to catch sunset at the canyon, which we did at Hopi point. When the bus dropped us back at the drop off point, it was so dark we couldn’t see where we were, and had a tough time finding our way to our car. Later we saw that different parking lots have posts with different animals but it’s hard to see in the dark, there is just no light, either in the lot, near the lot or anywhere else. So remember where you parked and note down the landmarks. Or have some GPS to guide you. PS: If you can, go the Desert View Watchtower point, two stops before the Watch tower stop, you'll get the most spectacular views of all the South Rim points.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 October 2023
- SusanSAugusta, Georgia12 contributionsSpectacular views and friendly service!!Besides the Spectacular views, all the workers were wonderful!! Our favorite was Captain Kirk who did the Sunset Tour. We loved the information guy at Kolb. Everywhere we went people were helpful and friendly. All the pleasantness added to the experience. Thank you all!!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 December 2023
- Charles SApalachicola, Florida52 contributionsOutstanding park and services, except for one over-rated restaurant.A must-see bucket list thing that you really MUST SEE to appreciate! Unlike anything else I've seen. Stay inside the park for the best experience. It is a beautiful, well-run park, with great shuttle buses to most viewpoints, attractions, and a good full size grocery store. We stayed at the Kachina Lodge, right on the South Rim and close to much of what the park offers. The hotels in this section all offer outstanding views right outside the buildings. The canyon itself is very accessible, with awesome views all along the Rim Trail. The only thing we found disappointing was the restaurant in the famous El Tovar hotel. Slow service with several order errors, and sub-par, overpriced food at every course. Other nearby eateries in the park are better.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 7 January 2024
- Claire KHove, United Kingdom1,960 contributionsDay 6 of the American AdventureYes you can read all about it, take a virtual tour but NOTHING prepares you for the heaven on earth view that is the Grand Canyon. That first glimpse….literally bought tears to my eyes. And I’m sure all those tours you can buy are lovely, but we just walked from Bright Angel on the South Rim, along to the Visitor Centre & back again. Perfection. And then , because it was out of season, were allowed to drive to Hermits Rest at the other end. The wardens were hugely helpful & informative & after you’d paid the National Park fee, you could park anywhere & move from area to area. Oh & we did some laundry at the Market Plaza in between breakfast….happy days. Grand Canyon though. A sight we’ll never forget.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 February 2024
- Timo van den BergOvertornea, Sweden868 contributionsBreathtaking location with great trails and parkingspotsThe views here are breathtaking. The area is so unique and beautiful, we enjoyed every minute. Every second you move around, you want to take a hundred pictures. Every viewing point has a parking lot and most of them have a toilet. There are good places for food and drinks, and souvenirs. The visitors centers are also good. Having a quick chat with some park-rangers will also learn you more and more of the area. Spend some days here. We did just one day, but we only drove around. Hiking here on the trails would be lovely, but I was sick during my stay.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 March 2024
- travelingal31105 contributionsAnother Great National Park!We only visited the South Rim. We all loved it. The pictures don't do it justice. We were able to hike quite a bit. We never had to wait long for a bus! I liked that you could rent bikes right at the visitor's center!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 March 2024
- Maiya LStockton, California113 contributionsEveryone must see onceAwe inspiring views! Lots of elk and deer along the roads. Everyone should experience the Grand Canyon once in their lifetime. Find a spot to watch the sun set and be totally amazed. We went in the off season and it was still crowded but nothing like the summers. A car pass is good for 7 days so you can go into the park as many times as you want without paying each time.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 March 2024
- WIatHeartGreenleaf, Wisconsin148 contributionsScenery to enjoyBucket list item checked off. The weather partially cooperated, was a bit chilly, but being from the midwest, we were prepared with our winter jackets. There is a fully functional small town here, so though priced accordingly, you can find pretty much whatever you need here. Grocery store, library, bus service. We hiked a stretch of the rim trail, enjoyed seeing more of the nooks and crannies than would from the road, and then took the shuttle once we were ready to see the rest of the stops in the westerly direction and head back for our lunch break. The sun didn't fully cooperate, but did get a few shots of good lighting at sunset one of our two nights. How dark it gets creating incredible starry night views was amazing. Yes, it's just a big hole in the ground, but every stretch of the rim trail gives you a new view to enjoy.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 March 2024

If you travel to Sedona, make a MANDATORY trip to the Grand Canyon. It’s undeniably one of the most majestic views you will ever witness. We had an incredible tour guide, Steve, who was a walking, talking encyclopedia. The view is enough to take in but it will be much more meaningful if you bring along a knowledgeable tour guide like Steve.
If you’re traveling there in October and decide to venture until sunset, be sure to bring a sweater. It gets cold!

Took a day trip by plane from Vegas one day, well worth it! We were brought to the west end of the canyon to spend a few hours roaming by ourselves. Was this something to see...its hard to truly wrap your head around it, especially since it might hit you how big the canyon really is! I've never been afraid of heights and im still not, however being able to walk right up to the edge of the canyon with nothing to stop me from falling was extremely cool and freaky at the same time. In some parts of the canyon there are railings up so if you want to you can stand there to feel more comfortable, be cautious either way because things happen. When we went it was windy so because i wanted to look straight down i decided to lay on my stomach and pull/crawl up to the edge and look over with someone hanging onto me...just incase. Again, none of this normally makes me nervous, i love heights and adrenaline but in reality, you need to be careful and have common sense while walking around. The Grand Canyon is something i would recommend to everyone, and see it from many different points/areas/cities...they all have something different to offer. I plan to check out the other end next year!

There are few sights in this world that leave one mesmerized. This is one of those sights that you remember for the rest of your life. The size and scope of this canyon along with the colors of the landscape make this a can't miss place. Even if you only stay a few minutes, the view from the North Rim and the 45 minute drive from Jacob Lake is worth it.

Ok, I get it.
There is so much beauty here that we can never express what we saw, but we can express how we saw it.
For many of us we do not have the time to walk the length of the south rim to the Hermit rest or the Look out Tower to the east.. As a train traveler we did not have the luxury of a car so what did we do?
We took Shuttles provided by the National park Service. These shuttles were driven by dedicated, professional men and women who are there to get us from point A to point B, safely, quickly and diplomatically.
We saw first hand how well the drivers deal with hundreds of visitors from other countries who had little or no knowledge of our language. We saw driver who had foreign visitors standing at the shuttle doors while trying to find out where they were or how to get to where they wanted to go. These drivers face these situations every day they are behind the wheel and deal with them diplomatically. Most will still still take time to point out points of interest or locations of the local wildlife.
Hats off to the shuttle drivers and thank you for you service.

You know, there just aren't enough superlatives to share about how superb Grand Canyon is. Getting to the rim and looking out at the Canyon just couldn't get better. And the Park Service continues to do a great job at managing the park even in these COVID times and with their inadequate budget (and with the increasing crowds).
Of particular interest are the Rim Trail, the Hermit's Point Shuttle and the eastern approach. There is simply to much to enumerate.
A suggestion is to do your homework before coming. That way you can be more strategic in going to the places that interest you. Crowds can be a significant issue.

This is truly a world class treasure. You seriously do not get much better than this for a natural attraction. The park is absolutely pristine, clean with no trash anywhere. Please remember to take plenty of water and it helps to be in good physical condition as distances can be further than they appear. Even if you drive to each parking lot you will still get a decent amount of walking in. In the summer it can get brutal hot as very little shade exists on trails around the rim. The park has a grocery store, restaurants, hotels and even a post office. Just beautiful!

Wonderful trails, lots of parking, and well maintained park. The only downside is the looong line to pay. You get to the front and they just hand you a map with a code to pay during your walk. The website is useless and the internet connection is non-existent. I'm guessing there's a lot of folks taking advantage of how hard it is to pay.

We traveled up from Flagstaff and the road, although somewhat narrow, is well maintained. The $30 per vehicle entrance is very reasonable as far as National Parks go. It's very well marked and easy to navigate once you get in. The canyon itself is absolutely breathtaking, the gift shop is impressive and the food is amazing. Worth the trip.

What is there to say? It is incredible. Crowds are heavy so here are a few tips that worked for us. We arrived just at sunset so we went to Mather Point which was very crowded. We went back to Mather Point for sunrise the next morning and much lighter crowds with a great view of the sunrise. We then took the shuttle to Bright Angel Lodge and got a grab and go breakfast at the Cafe/fountain (limited choices- b'fast burrito, packaged muffin, or danish), but it is the only place open before 8am. Then took Hermit Road shuttle and got ahead of the crowds. Walked some of the rim trail between stops and saw only a few people. By the time we got back to the start, the shuttles were full and long lines. Then we drove Desert View Drive at our own pace. No trouble parking at each overlook, lots of other people at each stop but not super crowded like at Mather Point.

If we’re passing through the Canyon and only had 2-3 hours to hike - which trails, (which rim) are most recommended for moderately skilled hikers?
Written 24 October 2022
If you have 2 - 3 hrs to spend in Grand Canyon, I recommend go to South Rim. There is free shuttle bus service in the park. I recommend to take Red Shuttle bus, from the Village center close to Bright Angel trailhead. The shuttle stops at multiple panoramic view points along the Hermit Road on South Rim. You will have to walk from the shuttle bus stop to the view points/overlooks. The overlooks are not far from the shuttle bus stop (less than a quarter mile). If you are interested in walking a longer distance, you can walk along the Hermit road. There is a trail there.

We’re heading back to the GC and wanting to hike a new trail. I don’t know the name of the last trail we hiked. It started at the horse corral where they give trail rides. Once you started descending down there are petroglyphs or pictographs on the cliffs and mountain goats relaxing on above. We climbed down to a restroom that had a railing and stairs which took several hours. Then be started to turn back and begin our assent. We passed a lot of bickers that came from camping further below in the bottom of the canyon. We were told it wasn’t too much further. What trail

Can you buy the National Parks annual pass at the Grand Canyon south rim?
Written 16 September 2020
My first time, I am athletic, 2nd person is not! Thinking about if i need a Tour guide or not?
is it worth paying for one? or explore on my own? only for the first visit, do the South Rim, and the South Kaibab 6 miles, thinking of having a tour guide. The pick up is in flagstaff, 1 hr 30 min. away from The Grand canyon!! they are round trip, and its a private tour. I want to explore more, its overwhelming beautiful of places to see. Originally I wanted to do a 4 days and Rim to Rim.
But its booked up for October.

We are planning on booking a tour to fly out from Vegas. We would have a couple hours to spend at the canyon. Can anyone recommend which rim we should visit for the best sights and best short hikes to get off the beaten path and away from the crowds?
Thank you!
Written 11 September 2020
North rim is less populated but I would say that the South rim is better suited to short hikes. It will really depend on which you think is a higher priority.

Did you drive to Grand Canyon? $35 entrance fee? How's the parking there? I plan to drive from Sedona and from what I'm reading tours are a ripoff. True?
Thanks
