Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped by the Kolb Studio about 9am and luckily they were open. The building is perched on the side of the canyon ledge so it is a true curiosity. Once entering they have another gift shop, but what made this building great was the man behind the desk. He directed us to the window so we could see the view and he gave us his own mini-lecture of the building's history. We also went exploring in the back room which was a little museum containing original photos and paintings. This isn't a must see, but it was a nice diversion from all those spectacular views (kidding).

we were sure to make a purchase from the studio store to show our support. They also offered a t-shirt that was not otherwise available in any of the gift shops. It reads in part ...going down optional...coming up...mandatory.

This is another Grand Canyon place that is "temporarily closed" without any obvious explanation. You can walk by and see that the building hugs the rim and appears neat. But anything on the inside has to await the future.

Poor signage within the park. We had to turn around several times. Poor direction finding our room at Maswik lodge. Good food at the lodge but rather expensive. Loved the geological museum! Nice stuff in the hotels gift shop but pricey.

Just went here today with my husband and toddler. The man working the front desk was one of the rudest, most disrespectful people I have ever met. He berated me for bringing my son's stroller into the store (because that is really all it is). The place sells typical kitsch that you could get at any souvenir shop. Not worth walking through the doors.

The paintings were just amazing and if I had any means I would have definitely taken home one, two or all three of the ones I fell in love with. That being said, anyone with an appreciation for real art needs to stop in. If you like camera work this place has one of the oldest projectors I have ever seen.

These brothers saw the opportunity to capture the both the canyon and the profit that also came with taking of the photographs.

Visit their home and studio and see how these early individuals came to capture all of what the canyon was.

Walk inside and see the exhibits. The paintings were amazing. I wish I would have had more time to spend..Just means I'll have to go back and see it again

The Kolb Studio on the south rim of the Grand Canyon is a very me experience. It has a lot of history of the discovery and development of the Grand Canyon. The exhibit in the downstairs area is really informative and interesting. Don't miss it if you're going to the south rim.

This combination museum, art gallery, gift shop and movie theater (of the Kolb films) is definitely worht a visit. The building itself is an architectural wonder as it clings to the side of the Canyon. There were exhibits and films worth viewing here. Must stop location to better understand the early attempts to capitalize on the Grand Canyon as a place of exploration and for tourists.

A little history: The Kolb Studio was built (1904) by brothers Ellsworth and Emery Kolb, photographers who made a living by photographing visitors walking down the Bright Angel Trail on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. In 1911-1912, the Kolb Brothers filmed their journey down the Green and Colorado Rivers. Emery Kolb showed this movie regularly in his studio until 1976, when he died at the age of 95. Today, the same building serves as an art gallery, museum, gift shop and exhibit of the work of the Kolb Brothers.
