We thoroughly enjoyed our organized hike into Volcanoes National Park. Though you can drive into a certain parking area and hike on your own. Be sure you have the right footwear, flashlight, water, and a jacket (weather can change quick) So many options to explore this vast landscape.

We were staying in Kona on the west side of the island and almost decided not to make the two hour trip, but we were glad we did. First, you have to plan to visit at night. Seeing the active Halema'uma'u crater from the Jagger Museum lookout is breath-taking and completely different than in the day-time. We saw the steam... More

This park is a great treasure. We did the shorter hikes, including the Sulpher Banks to the Steam Vents, and the Thurston Lava tube. Both were really cool. Seeing the active crater was stunning, especially when we returned after dark, and you can see the lava reflected in the vapor. Amazing! The Chain of Craters road had many cool sights,... More

Great full day adventure starting out with a helicopter flight over the volcanoes. Then we progressed to a bus tour visiting old lava flows, jagger museum and many craters. Awesome day out and well worth the money.

Volcano National Park-20.00 per car cash. I believe this is good all week to visit the park. Make sure your gas tank is full as there is no services in park. If you don't plan to hike to Volcano then give yourself some hours to drive and explore. If you hike to Volcano from national park side it is 5... More

I toured Volcanoes National Park in one of the big bus tours that was offered by Norwegian's Pride of America cruise. The plus -- we had an amazing driver/tour guide. The downside -- hiking and exploring was limited. In that limited time, I really feel like we hit the highlights. I am still in awe of the fact that I... More

This National Park rates up there with Yellowstone and Yosemite. It is a fabulous Park on the east side of the Big Island. Every month they have a Hula dancing demonstration and on Fridays from 11-1 they have a special activity. These are added bonuses to an already fabulous park (the price well worth it since the Republicans seem to... More

Even standing in the cold rain with an umbrella over my camera and lens it was an unbelievable privilege to watch red lava from the caldera of the Kilauea Crater. Previously, I'd witnessed lava pouring into the sea but this was a much better vantage point and even more thrilling. Be sure to take a tripod and patience. The vantage... More

Did the two hour drive to see this. Was really hoping to see active lava but could only see it from a far. The firehouse fountain was a 10 mile round trip walk during a serious wind storm. So we did not go see it. All in all I am. It sure I would do this again. The only good... More
