Our favorite part of the visit was the Chain of Craters road. The old lava flows are interesting and it was fun to hike through a lava tube. Half way down the view becomes spectacular looking out over the entire coast.

In a rather long day, we had the opportunity to discover many different aspects of this beautiful island. The tour was well organized, the guide Jim, terrific very nice and knowledgable. We stopped at regular intervals and discovered lava flows, waterfalls, rain forest, Hilo and the volcano park. Dinner was excellent and viewing the lava flow at night is a must.... More

Definitely a bucket list,.going around the island is one of the best drive. The views of the ocean from up above thousands of feet from sea is sureal. We rented a room just about 5 miles from Jagaar museum. The best view of the crater is getting up before sun up, not a lot of people. So quiet, such meditating... More

This national treasure is a park that cannot be missed. One goes from rainforests to desert areas in minutes and it is all beautiful. This area is rich in history and inspirational views. There is so much that can be learned. It is a place not to be missed.

I've lived in Hawaii a long time but I've never seen the volcano eruption like it is right now. The fire pit at Halema'uma'u had four fountains and the level of the lava lake rose and fell on an hourly basis. It is best to see it at night. The lava fountains are much more visible in the dark. Observations... More

We came to this island specifically to spend some time here. So glad we came. There is nothing else like this. We listened to a great talk by one of the park rangers. Just in awe of the recent history of the area. Great picture taking opportunities.

What an amazing landscape! Please make sure you hike at least one of the trails that you may not think you'd normally do. It's such a lovely place. Don't miss seeing the lava up at the top. And most importantly, please make sure you go to Kalapana where the road is closed, rent a bike, and ride the 4 miles... More

We hiked 5 miles out to the lava flow into the ocean. 4 miles was on good gravel road. The last mile was on lava fields and was a tough hike. They have it marked off with a rope so you know how to safely go. The hike back in the dark was difficult but worth it. We had a... More

Here you are within view of two volcanoes, and very near to others. This national park is a refuge for indigenous wildlife, and plant life. You can see plants and animals here that exist no other place on the planet. You can also see live, active volcanoes, and lava. We actually saw lave, but from a long distance away.

We visited the park during the day time, at night, and toured it in a helicopter. I preferred the night time view of the bubbling crater (via a astronomical telescope provided by Kailani tours' Jim Carey) than via the $600 helicopter tour! It was magical. It was great to stop by the steam vents during the day and also to... More
