It's really neat seeing and feeling all of that steam venting from the Earth! It's hard to believe your standing on top of a active volcano!

We stopped at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and we were greeted with a beautiful view of lava flow in the caldera of the volcano. We were there just at sunset, which provided a fantastic view of the lava. Highly recommend!

This is a nice hike but it is hard to see the lava ocean entry from this side. Better to go to Kalapana side....closer to the action.

I had been to this park years ago on a sunny day so I know how gorgeous it is. Unfortunatly the volcano gods weren't helpful so when my family visited there was dense fog. (thank goodness for internet images which we looked at when we returned home so Kids could truly see the beauty) Despite the weather the guides were... More

This crater was amazing - not often you get to see lava bubbling out of a volcanic cauldron! Tip - the visitor center is open until 8PM, but the viewing area (outdoors) is open 24/7! Get there late at night, or just before sunrise (we did both) to avoid the crowds and get some great views! The lava is much... More

This is a must see NATIONAL park! Walk in some of the craters, hike, and of course view the eruption if it is active.

Took a tour here to see the volcano. Observation building had good information and a nice view of the inside of the crater with spewing lava. Coming back at night let us see the glow of the lava lake around the spurting lava that I was told would go as high as 100 feet. It's amazing to see something still... More

Even though hiking the 8 mile trail was not an option, we were still able to see many steam vents and the lava in the crater from along the Crater Rim Road. Recommend binoculars and cameras with at least 400mm lens. Park rangers were available with plenty of information.
