Pack your camera with you! We were there the first part of March and there was still water behind the dam which was very reflective of the rocks behind, cool photo! This is an easy walk, perhaps a mile all together. We saw a LOT...More

Never walked a trail I didn't enjoy...this is a crowded trail. BARKER DAM Barker dam was builtat the site of a spring. Combining them together to store more water for the ranchers in the area. Small dam that's interesting to see as I imagine how...More

More of a course sand and small gravel walk. Allows walking into more flat open part of the desert. Some history provided with signage. Recommend.

This I liked better than the Hidden Valley, but being used to long hikes, this feels very short. There are some good plates up with explanation to why the Dam is there and what it was used for. The sights on this walk is nice...More

As with most of the short trails at Joshua Tree, this was a very enjoyable walk. There were plenty of signs explaining the flora and fauna, and it was interesting to see the small dam and imagine what it would have been like with ranchers...More

Another pleasant walk within Joshua Tree National Park. A very easy stroll leading to a small dam. Suitable for families with children and people of all ages.

This is a short, easy hike down to the Barker Dam area. The views are really beautiful. This is a moderately used trail, so expect to see some people.

Written up in the park brochures as a birder destination, and reassured by the Oasis Visitor Station staff that there would be birds there mid-day, we were skunked! Maybe dawn and dusk are the better times than mid-afternoon. The loop hike, and nature plaques were...More
