This was a nice, relatively quick trail. The placard states should budget 2-3 hours; realistically can do this in 1.5 hr. Takes about 35 min (~1.5 mi) to end of trail going at moderate pace. Approximately 300 ft elevation change each way, but was quite gradual. National Park Service labels as "moderately strenuous" but I suspect most experienced hikes would... More

I was there on a holiday weekend. It was the less crowded area of the park. The hike was a little strenuous but we are all in shape. We saw some people struggling to climb the hills. The oasis is beautiful as you come over there hill and around the bend. It was my favorite hike in JTNP.

Looking for a short, for some a challenging hike, with an awesome reward? This is it! There are some serious warnings at the trailhead, pay attention! Bring water and drink it! Though we were here in December, I broke a sweat and drank 32 oz during the in and out hike. The trail is easy to follow, but it does... More

We took a mid-afternoon hike here in October - it was hot and the sun was intense, but hey - its a desert this is not unexpected! We took the loop around the old gold mine. The view from just before the gold mine is great, you can really survey your progress. I recommend taking the steep uphill heading north... More

Easy to find the start of the trail, and parking also. Beautiful, from start to finish.2+ hours for us,walking quite briskly. A true and lovely Oasis at the end/half way point( don't forget you have to get back to the car! Recommended

Start this hike as early as you can. The oasis might be shady and cool but the hike in, then out, is dry, hot and for the most part barren. I enjoyed the hike and the views. The oasis itself is the highlight and it's really worth seeing. In mid May we started this hike at 7am, made it to... More

Adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park on the way to the city of Twenty Nine Palms is this great hike. About 1.5 miles each way, this climbs about 700 feet and gives you a panoramic view of the valley floor as well as the mountain and desert terrain. The oasis is intact and has about two dozen palms with a... More

This is a moderately-strenuous hike. Total round-trip distance is 3 miles, and round-trip elevation gain is 600'. I underestimated the difficulty of this hike, thinking it would be easy, but the elevation gain moves it into the ranks of moderate. Note that the oasis is for day use only (so that the bighorn sheep and other critters can have access... More

I will not review all the places I visited and saw in JT, but this was the longest hike with the most rewarding destination. You really feel in the middle of the desert. Arriving at the oasis is magical. When I arrived I was the only visitor and could truly enjoy all these majectic palm trees. Highly recommended!

You hike along the highway side of Josh for some time before dropping down. It's not a long hike but was mores strenuous than I thought. You will love it!
