There was quite a bit of snow pack so we used snowshoes and poles. The trail up and the views of the mountains are quite beautiful. The lake was totally frozen over and it was quite windy, so this hike was more about the journey than the destination, but we really enjoyed it! We are not hikers per se and... More

Needing a break I decided to try this trail. I'm in okay shape, but not very athletic, and it was a bit of a task climbing. It's not too long of a trail, but the last 1/3 of it is VERY steep and the altitude can really get you. It's about 8,000ft and I live at 5,000. I plan on... More

This is a very scenic trail through very pretty forrest. We did this on a sunny fall day, so the colours were spectacular. Its quite a strenuous hike if you're not used to the altitude, but well worth the effort. We did the circular route back to the car park, but you can backtrack from Cub Lake if you don't... More

This hike is good many times in the year, but very beautiful in the fall. It is about 4.5 miles round trip and can be made into a loop if you choose. As you start on the trail you are heading up through a glacial valley that had a forest fire come through recently. You will see evidence of it... More

Having done longer hikes near sea level I thought this 2.5 mile hike would not be too difficult, I was totally wrong. We were out of breathe and felt hungry. The low humidity took a toll with chapped lips. Wished I had hiking poles. Nonetheless, the view of Cub Lake was worth the "pain". We picnicked on the rocks overlooking... More

Ok so then your about 3 qtrs there and the trail changes t a rock laden path. Then the climb starts honestly 1/2 mile up... More

Pretty views of lake and meadows areas, with Rocky Mountains in the back drop. You'll start at about 8000+ ft and get up to 8700, so mild gain and workout if you are just getting used to altitude. We saw a mother moose and calf grazing in the meadow on way to the lake. We made a loop hike by... More

Nice trail, picturesque, not too tough, can cross over to other trails easily. if you haven't been on this trail in the last few years, it's different due to a fire in the area several years ago. Much more open and sunny now.

No visit to RMNP is complete without hiking to Lake Haiyaha. On the way to Lake Haiyaha, see Cub Lake as well.

We hit this trailhead when it met up with the fern lake trailhead. This makes for about a 6 mile loop. Our family of six made the trek with relative ease. There is a lot of rocky terrain with this one and some uphill walking. My 71-year-old mother made it - albeit with a lot of huffing and puffing and... More
