Beautiful drive

This is a beautiful drive. We periodically vacation in the area to experience the scenery, and love the drive.

We live near the Skyline Drive and go there often for it's beauty and wild life. We hike many of the trails. One thing I don't like is some of the people do not pay any attention to the speed limit. They act like they are on a major highway. Please obey the speed limit while there. You never know... More

Fantastic day-trip get away from the DC area. Beautiful sights and walks - suitable for all levels of trekking. Be prepared through!! Forest, streams, and pools to play in. Pick any of the main trails and go from there. Things are well marked, and good visitor centers.

We were looking forward to being on Skyline. The views were great. We stopped the car and did several short hikes. The Appalachian trail winds along and across the drive and we had to stop at many of the trail heads. We saw deer, hawks, and owls.

January is perhaps not the best time to take the Skyline Drive (snow, rain, and fog), but it turned out to be a wonderful time. No crowds and very beautiful vistas. An added bonus of no campers is that, around dusk, dozens of deer come out near the roadways to feed, and we also saw three large owls perched in... More

Got on at Front Royal and rode to Luray. Beautiful drive and vistas. A little expensive but the money goes to the park so it's a worthy investment. Most of the visitor centers are closed in the winter but the restrooms are open.

The pictures of this place look epic, unfortunately we undertook the drive on a cloudy day falsely thinking we would end up above or just below the clouds. We ended up IN them. A nerve-wracking hour of not seeing more than a few feet in front of the car ensued. So don't go if it's cloudy.

Our plan was to take the drive as a way to see the beautiful views. Unfortunately, the weather is unpredictable and we ran into terrible fog. This made the drive dangerous and we left the road after realizing we wouldn't see very much. The road is winding, and we did not feel comfortable in the fog. However, we took a... More

This was our fourth trip to Shenandoah National Park. Usually we go in July and if it’s too hot or humid the views aren’t as good. This year we went during Labor Day weekend. It was crowded but the park had several things going on and it was well worth it. One was a talk we attended about bears. It... More
