Have visited Shenandoah 4 times in last years, but never climbed bearfance mountain, may be because it’s a short hike and right off the skyline drive. Glad I lately did it. There is little struggle on the way but totally worth it. As I ascended,...More

This "rock scramble" was so much fun! You have to be in good physical shape to do this hike. Apparently there is another path that is easier but I did not see it. The views from this route were amazing!

It's not that long and does have a "rock scramble" so it does take some agility, and I think the toughest part was that we tried this on a humid 90 degree day. Great reward at the top with spectacular views. If you're only gonna...More

We chose the rock scramble to get to the top but it was slightly difficult for my 6 yr old. After it started to rain hard, it was scary. The rocks are slippery when wet and 2 adults with 3 kids, one who started crying...More

Did Bearfence trail on recommendation of rangers. Trail was mostly oddly shaped rocks strewn up and down the hillside. Very hard to walk on especially with weak ankles. Good shoes a must. I am 67 and in reasonably good shape. This trail kicked my butt!...More

This hike was a lot of fun despite the fact that we had to turn back early due to a storm rolling in. My family and I chose the more rugged route of the two trail choices and we loved it. It offered a beautiful...More

The hike to the top of the Bearfence Mountain is moderate difficult. But definitely one should try. There are two trail to the top. You can try the easy one. Direction can be found on the start of the trail.

Our first time doing the Bearfence hike. It was recommended by the park ranger. Do not attempt in any wet weather. Words to describe it were, fun, exhilarating, scary, challenging, excellent views, different, unique, motivational, not for small children. This hike has a rock scramble...More

We hike a lot and have two small children. This is a beautiful hike for adults and older children, and our 6 year old did it with a bit of help on the rock scrambling, but it wasn’t safe to get our toddler all of...More

Short hike. Maybe 30-45 minutes each way . Longer if you take your time. it involves climbing over rocks and is a fun hike.
